To Find a Friend

Updated on June 15, 2010

This poem is dedicated to my precious, irreplacable, blessings to my life, my 'Friends!'
Charlotte, Meja, Grace, Trina, Tommy, and the list goes on!! I have found a friend in each of you, I hope I can be as good a friend to you as you have been to me.
Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your life , I cherish your friendships!!

Friends come in different sizes,
different names and walks of life.
They could be your next door neighbor,
the man on the corner, or your wife.

They come in different wrappings,
different looks and colors too.
They sometimes really surprise us
when we are in need and they come to our rescue.

There are friends that stick beside us
no matter what the problem may be.
They hold us close and love us
Their goodness is not hard to see.

They save us from ourselves sometimes
when we can't see to clear.
They help us pick the pieces up
and tell us do not fear.

We will get through this, you and I,
no matter how long it takes.
The road may be long
but I will be here for you whenever you awake.

Friends are special angels
that are sent into our lives
To lift us up and bless us
and make us feel alive.

We each have something to offer
to those who cross our paths,
We should take the time to
look deeper into the kindest acts.

There is something we should learn from them.
Something we too can give,
to peoples souls and spirits
we just need to look deeper and give.

Give of ourselves, of our hearts,
of the energy within.
It's what we are suppose to do,
cheer them on, lift them up,
love them selflessly
til they are loved back to
that soft place to fall.

That's what we are you know?
someones soft place to fall,
someones rock, someones shoulder to cry on,
someones safe haven, it's a need in us all.

So next time you see a old friend,
or someone new appears in your life,
Take a look into their soul and spirit,
we are all in need of human touch ,
whether it be a kind word, the touch of a hand
a hug, or time together,
it can mean so much.

You have to be a good friend
to find good friends.
Sincere caring that comes straight from the heart,
is worth more than all the money in the world.
And it is right here inside each of us where it starts.

I have been blessed as you have with many friends, oh maybe not the kind that I go fishing with or call me every so often but friends and friendships that I know are real. These are the ones that know us so well and share in our joys as well as our sorrows, sometimes not ever saying a word but just being there when we need them to be.

Thank you for the excellent poem!

There is nothing in the world like a true friend. I once told my dad (when I was a teenager) that I had hundreds of friends. He said, "No, son. You have hundreds of acquaintances. You will never have more than a few friends with whom you can ride the river." I asked him what that meant exactly and he said, "If you are on a raft with ten of your "friends" going down the rapids of a river and you fall in, nine of them will exclaim 'Hey! James fell in!.' One of them will jump in to save you. That is your only friend on the raft. The others are acquaintances."

Thank you, yes I have been hurt by friends and I have hurt some as well, but not maliciouly as you mentioned. I am glad that solid friendships withstand our shortcomings as human beings. Thanks for stopping in!!

Friends are valuable, yes indeed. The hardest part of friendship I think is continuing to be an ungrudging friend when they make decisions that we may disagree with, or more succinctly, when they make decisions that may cause us to grieve. Here, we must allow them that freedom – and respect their decisions, even if we are (unmaliciously) hurt as a consequence. I think a solid friendship can endure the tests that life inevitably brings to all of us. Your poem of friendship is very nice singlmomat52, and I wish you the hardiest of friends.
