YouTube Relationship Advice. Say What? What does Amy North have to say?
YouTube is a go-to for many people who want to be entertained and do not have much access to cable tv perhaps, like me. YouTube is a great resource for watching lots of video clips for free with the internet access that you might already have.
The thing is that we do not want just entertainment. Sometimes we struggle in various aspects of our lives, are not sure where to turn and we want advice.
Because of this, YouTube gurus have been popping up everywhere. These YouTube sensations, these YouTube stars think, “people want advice and we are here to give it to them.”
When it comes to human relationships, “the struggle is real”. Sometimes, it is difficult for us to nurture our relationships, sometimes it is difficult for us to get along with each other. When it comes to romance, it is something that most people want in their lives. Are people that market themselves as “relationship experts” sitting on gold mines with the profitable advice that they have to share?
Relationship advice videos often get a ton of views on YouTube. I stumbled upon many of these relationship advice videos myself for the first time last year. I was desperate and looking for some relatable information.
Speaking of desperate, in the comment sections of many of these YouTube relationship advice videos, some smug people like to comment that people that are looking for relationship advice on YouTube are desperate, pitiful and need to get a life, but guess what, the commentators were watching the videos, themselves to even be able to write these things.
Additionally, for some of us, love is as essential as the air we breathe. Ok, that’s an exaggeration, for sure, but we do truly feel a little lost without any love and romance in our lives. Love and romance enrich our lives so much and make us feel more alive and more fulfilled. There is a very significant importance to love and romance and building romantic relationships of mutual respect.
So as I myself got caught in the rabbit hole of looking at relationship advice videos on YouTube, I encountered advice from a plethora of “relationship advice experts”. A word that many of them often like to use is “counterintuitive”. Sometimes, they will say something to the effect of
“Ok, here is what you should do and it may seem counterintuitive but here goes”. The word counterintuitive almost becomes like a disclaimer as if to say,
“Look, I am going to tell you some things. I am going to give you some advice. A lot of the things that I say will contradict what I said ten minutes before and you will be left feeling very confused about what you should do but in the end, what you do is up to you. Some of my advice might seem counterintuitive.”
So yes, be very cautious with relationship advice from YouTube. In the end, you might end up feeling very confused about what actions to take and like you are playing with fire. In the end, I would say to go with your gut, wear your heart on your sleeve, follow your heart even though it might get broken? I don’t know. I am not the relationship expert, but here is one who claims to be – Amy North.
Among the many “Relationship Advice Experts” on YouTube is Amy North. I watched a few of her videos. She hails from Canada. I think it is Vancouver, Canada but I can not remember for sure. In Amy North’s videos, she presents herself professionally and somewhat empathetically like she really cares about your plight to find and sustain true love and romance, but what are some of the main things that Amy North really has to say in her relationship advice videos on YouTube?
Here is a brief summary of key ideas that she frequently reiterates in her videos. The specific advice mentioned below is for women who are trying to figure men out. Amy North says:
- Men love the chase
- They are like hunters
- They are like cats with a piece of string
- Dangle the string in front of them
- Then snatch it back
- Leave them wanting more
If you go to YouTube looking for relationship advice in your real life relationship struggles, then you might end up being entertained after all. Some of the advice is very entertaining.
You listen to the videos and you think, “Are they serious?” Are they? I don’t know. I myself am not the relationship expert and never claimed to be.
- Generally, I would say always use caution when watching YouTube relationship advice videos and remember that some of the advice will seem “counterintuitive”.
- Take away the advice that you want from the YouTube videos and leave the rest of it behind.
- In the end, always remember that the way you conduct yourself in your life, including your love life is up to you.
- Remember that you are not alone in your struggle to find love and/ or keep your love alive. Many, many people in the world can relate to what you are going through.
