    How did the tradition of men holding doors open for women start?

    When the castle door was too heavy for the poor women to move by her self. Of course once, she got inside she didn't have any trouble getting things moved about to suit her fancy.

      I concur,   my feeling is, it comes from strength of respect also.
      "Acknowledgement".....Women physically, are perceive by men as the weaker sex ...Some men witness  there dad opening doors for there mom.

      True or not .....I appreciate the gesture!
