How I Fell In Love
My freshman year in High School was a year that I would never forget. I was new to this school and did not know many people. I was quickly accepted though and by the end of the first semester I had a new best friend and a new girlfriend. This girlfriend was just a passing school girlfriend; there was never anything in it and we quickly broke up. Then I went to the homecoming dance.
It started out just like any other dance, music played and people danced. I was leaning up against the wall talking with some of my new friends while I sat out this particular song. Suddenly the doors to the gym opened and in walked three girls. The first two I didn’t really pay any mind to but the last girl to walk in, well, she took my breath away. Just like in the movies, time slowed down. As she walked in I caught her eye and smiled at her; she smiled back. A different type of music filled my ears and my heart, and I was done for.
The dance continued normally, I checked her out from a distance until I got the nerve up to ask her for a dance. I approached her with hesitant confidence, to be perfectly honest with you I was extremely nervous as she was (and still is) the most beautiful girl I have ever seen. No other woman before or since has taken my breath away. I asked her for the dance and much to my amazement, she accepted.
The song that played was “I Swear” by All-4-One, a beautiful song of love. Well as they always do, the dance ended and everyone went home. I was so excited to go back to school and see this girl again. But alas I would be disappointed. I didn’t see her again for a year.
In tenth grade the same thing happened. I went to the homecoming dance thinking very little about this girl at this point. Then once again, she walked in the gym following her sisters. Once more she took my breath away and I again had to work up the courage to ask her for a dance. By the time I asked her it was a slow song. We danced, holding each other so close. I could feel her heart beating, rhythmically and steady as mine raced. She smelled just like heaven and it just felt right being in each others arms. The song we danced to was none other than “I Swear” by All-4-One.
Another year passed and I played football this time. I met my Earth Angel on the football field as she watched the game. During the game two other very pretty girls asked for my phone number which I gave. When I saw her again, my heart skipped a beat. I had more courage at this point and decided to go talk to her. She spoke in such a manner that her speech reminded me of an angel. I asked her if she was going to the dance tonight and she said no. Apparently her parents weren’t going to let her because she didn’t have a date. “I could take you if you want.” I offered
She said yes and gave me her phone number. Since I had no paper to write on I committed her number to memory by repeating it several times in my head. Just like 8675309, oh yeah, I remember. That evening an hour after I got home, I called her. Needless to say she was surprised that I had called. She obviously didn’t see me write down her phone number and feared I would forget it. So to the dance we went. It was a wonderful dance, because I danced with her all night long. If I died at this moment, I would envision heaven to be that particular dance. There was nothing else on my mind but her and me in happy unison. Again we danced to “I Swear” by All-4-One. That weekend I asked her to go horseback riding with me and she accepted. We started to date on that day. We are still together to this day.
That is how I fell in love. She is the only girl I have ever truly loved.
