A Valentine's Day get-away at a bed and breakfast

Updated on January 12, 2010

A Bed and Breakfast is the perfect place to celebrate Valentine's Day. My Inn is always filled for Valentine's Day. I've seen a lot creative ways that couples celebrate. Of course, we are here to make their week-end as special as possible. It really doesn't cost an arm and a leg, if you pick the right place.

It's amazing what some of my guests come up with to surprise their partners. Everything from champagne served in glasses engraved with romantic messages, to home-made chocolate dipped strawberries, to rose petals strewn across the room from the door to the bed. This last idea was thought up by a nice young man for his wife of one year.

Occasionally, someone will want to surprise their other half with the destination and wont tell them where they're being taken. They'll come by ahead of time, get the key to the room, later drive up to our place and just open the door to our warm intimate and romantic Victorian setting.

We always have soft music playing, maybe Chopin or Mozart, to create a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere. The couple will walk in and one of them will be completely speechless, not knowing where they are or what is going on.

In utter amazement, they will be lead to a lovely Victorian room with four-poster bed where a vase of beautiful red roses is sitting on a Queen Anne bedside table. Looking around the room, with its restored polished wooden floors covered with oriental rugs and its antique furnishings, they will see a bottle of Champagne icing in a lovely silver bucket, a cheese and fruit tray, and a crystal dish filled with chocolate truffles or chocolate covered strawberries.

I know what you're thinking. This about to be a very expensive week-end. But, really, it's not. We love to do romantic week-ends and we make these packages quite reasonable. We book a lot of them and make up for the low price in quantity of packages. Many of the couples that do come for Valentine's Day tell me that they set aside a little each week before they come. They use this time as a mini-vacation and budget it in for the year.

Everyone needs a break now and then.....a time to kick back and relax. How relaxing is it to soak in a tub of luxurious bubbles, or sip a glass of wine in front of a beautiful art deco fireplace? How about falling asleep in a huge, 4-poster, Victorian bed, snuggled under crisp, white luxury sheets and down comforter? Then, waking in the morning to the aroma of fresh baked muffins or bread, with the anticipation of a perfect day of sight seeing or just hanging out?

After a good night's sleep, you come downstairs to breakfast in our beautiful French Toile dining room. Let us pamper you with steaming cups of fresh brewed, gourmet coffee or tea. Maybe try one of our Belgium waffles with fresh strawberries and whipped cream, or a delicious Spinach-herb Quiche. Don't get up!! Just sit and relax and imagine all the fun things you're going to do today!

Believe me, what ever amount of money you spend on this type of romantic get away, you will never forget it.
