Crafty Flower Girl Baskets

Updated on October 20, 2017

Make a Unique Flower Girl Basket

Get a 'wow' from your guests by giving more time making a unique and eye-catching flower girl baskets. Before you even walk on the aisles, these cute girls will be carrying those baskets, sprinkling petals; signaling that you are about to make your walk down the aisle. They herald your entry. If I were the bride, I'd make the baskets really catchy for this reason. Should it not be? Do guests even notice the baskets? For me, I give attention to the baskets. Especially when the flower girls are not wearing crafty head dresses, most striking thing is the basket a girl carries.

Photo shows the flower basket I have done for one of my clients. How much does it costs to make one like this? I detailed the materials below.

Turquoise Blue Flower Girl Basket

How Much Did it Cost Me?

I made this flower basket for the wedding of my client on October 21, 2013. Her motif was turquoise blue and lavender so I included those two colors in this basket. Since the flower girls are going to wear lavender dress, I used more of the other motif in their baskets.

The photo does not show the color contrast well because I darkened it to make the details more visible. Check the intro photo to see the color contrast.

How much did it cost me to make one basket?

(note that the costing is based on my location. I converted it to dollar)

Rattan basket - $0.52

One meter fur - $1.10 (2 meters of fur was enough to decorate 3 baskets)

2.5 meters 2" Ribbon - $0.20

1 meter 3/4 inch silver ribbon (for the rose at the middle of the big ribbon) - $0.23

Glue gun and glue stick

Will you make your own basket if the cost is this low?

These flower girl baskets were used for my sister's wedding (December 2011). It is much easier to do than the blue basket shown above. All you need is the basket, fur, a pink ribbon and a wooden flower. The wooden flower is about $0.25.

It does not take 20 minutes to make one of these baskets. You just need to paste the materials in place with a glue gun and you're done. There's no need to learn how to make a rose flower out of a ribbon.

Making Flower Girl Baskets

If you‘re crafty with ribbons,

you can easily decorate a basket.

Most flower girl baskets are decorated with ribbons

For the purpose of illustrating it,

I used a strip I cut from a gift wrapper

With Fresh Flowers

No Ribbons and Fur

This basket is unique in that the decors are real fresh flowers. You may opt for this kind if your wedding is during spring when flowers abound so the materials will not cost much. Another factor to consider is whether someone will have time to decorate the baskets a day before the wedding. Unlike the baskets decorated with ribbons and fur that the materials will not wither, this basket needs to be prepared as near as the wedding ceremonies. Consider that someone should buy the materials and have to prepare it.

Several Unique Materials

One of a kind

The inner layer is made of ribbons showing the duo motif of the bride. Then, you see there a lace ribbon. This costs around $0.18 to $0.24 per meter. The outermost layer of the decoration is made of fibers with white accent on the tips. These is sold per bundle, about $0.10 per bundle.

It will take more time to make this basket than the pink with fur, the simple lavender and the basket with fresh flowers.

It could be more attractive if the color combinations is not dull. Imagine if the lace is fuchsia pink, or another bright color option.

Adding the baby pink fur is a terrific idea. I made up my own flower baskets for my wedding and it was a lot of fun. I still have them today:)

The 2 little flower girls in pink with their baskets are absolutely adorable. That is such a treasure and your flower baskets are so cute when in color theme to the wedding dresses.
