There are times when descriptions fade away and the only one that fits is that of a seeker soaking in all of life.. with gratitude and love.

The full moon day in the month of the July which comes right after the summer solstice is known and celebrated as Guru Poornima in India. ‘Guru, ‘Remover of Darkness’ as the word means in Sanskrit, is the revered spiritual seer, saint, teacher of the Supreme Truth.

It is difficult to understand and experience the Truth directly, similar to looking directly and intensely at the Sun. The Moon, on the other hand can be looked at directly and has a cooling effect. In the spiritual tradition, the Guru is likened to the Moon which reflects the Sun’s rays. Having experienced the Truth directly, he guides his students to reach their highest expression and to express their latent divinity.

There are a number of legends associated with this day. The most important being the birth of Veda Vyasa, who is credited with grouping the Vedas into four. This is also the day he commenced writing his important work - the Brahma Sutras - and all his works are relevant to this day. Thereby this day is also known as Vyasa Poornima. Buddha also delivered his first talk to his disciples after enlightenment on this day. This was also the day when Adiyogi Shiva taught the principles of Yoga to his seven disciples or Sapta Rishis.

This is, therefore the day, when disciples offer their gratitude to their Guru and rededicate themselves to the Guru's teachings.

This article is a compilation of some of the finest teachings of the Gurus /Masters of India. From a vast ocean of wisdom, I have, but gathered a few drops. Meditate on these, absorb it, soak in it and one can never be the same again.

1. All power is within you, you can do anything and everything. Arise, awake and manifest the divinity within you and everything will be harmoniously arranged around you. Awaken from this hypnotism of weakness. None is really weak; the soul is infinite, omnipotent and omniscient.

- Swami Vivekananda

2. A saint is a sinner who never gave up.

- Paramahansa Yogananda

3. By your practise of meditation, you will find that you are carrying within your heart, a portable paradise.

- Paramahansa Yogananda

4. Success is hastened or delayed by one’s habits. It is not your passing inspirations or brilliant ideas so much as your everyday mental habits that control your life.

- Paramahansa Yogananda

5. If you love a flower, don’t pick it up

Because if you pick it up it dies and it ceases to be what you love

So, if you love a flower, let it be.

Love is not about possession.

Love is about appreciation.

- Osho

6. A master’s divine love is not that of human love but is something which only the heart, and never the mind, is capable of understanding. In the true spiritual tradition, the teacher gives so much to his student that the student’s life is over-whelmed and transformed.

- Swami Rama

7. Divine love makes us true to ourselves and to others. Divine love is the solution to our difficulties and problems. It frees us from every kind of binding. It makes us speak truly, think truly, and act truly. It makes us feel one with the whole universe. Divine love purifies our hearts and glorifies our being.

- Meher baba

8. It is better to do nothing that to do what is wrong. For whatever you do, you do to yourself.

- Buddha

9. The self is like space. Thoughts come and go. Emotions come and go but when you go inside there is only empty space. Identification with thoughts, feelings and emotions makes us feel we are stuck. The ‘real magnanimous you’ is that space inside where you feel totally at peace. In moments when you are totally at peace you feel an expansion. You feel boundless and limitless and that is our true nature. We are all one in that, there is no two.

- Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

10. Inquire: Who am I? and you will find the answer. Look at a tree- from one seed arises a huge tree; from it comes numerous seeds, each one of which in its turn grows into a tree. No two fruits are alike. Yet it is one life that throbs in every particle of the tree. So, it is the same atman (soul) everywhere.

- Ma Anandamayee

11. It is a strange bridge – from your limited ego to the infinite Reality. Each time you take two steps, the bridge behind you is burnt.

- Swami Chinmayananda

12. When you do not know what to choose, show total involvement in everything. Then life will choose, and it is never wrong.

- Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev
