Online Bible Verses - 1st Corinthians Chapter 13: We All Have Gifts
“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.” 1 Corinthians 13:1-3NIV
We have all been blessed with gifts. Some specifics are given above. Speaking in tongues: somewhat controversial, often viewed with skepticism. Some people would take the viewpoint that tongues were used by God as a tool in growing and fostering the early church, and the gift is no longer in effect. I’m certainly not studied in this area, so I can’t say with any level of expertise. For all I know, people may indeed still have this gift, the ability to speak in and interpret. Prophecy is a gift which falls within the same category. Could be some still have it. Can’t say.
Some gifts are undeniably still evident. Giving for example. There are people we can all identify who are givers. They are willing to sacrifice their time to help others. My sister is one of those givers. She has always been that in her professional life. She wants to help people. That is her gift.
Billy Graham has a gift. That of sharing the Gospel in love. In doing so, he has shown a unique way of conveying Christ’s message as an invitation to all. This opposed to a message which divides and turns off. God gave Him the gift of understanding and sharing. He is also a giver, spent a good part of his life in missions which included heavy lifting and helping.
We all have them. Question becomes, what do we do with them? God’s intent, that we use them in service to Him. In that way, love must be an element. In the absence of love and compassion, these gifts become self serving.
So today we can ask God to enable us in using our gifts; get out there and do our thing for Him.
