Online Bible Verses - 1st Timothy 2:5-6 Mediator Between Man and God
“For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people.” 1 Timothy 2:5-6
God knew, in His wisdom, that we had and would continue to have a tendency for lifting up mere mortals to the level of divinity. One aspect of this tendency is to start out by assigning a semi-divine status: not quite up there with God, but far above other men. Over time, the semi-divine slowly creeps towards divine. Several hundred years later, we end up with multiple mediators between God and man. Prayer is now directed everywhere, going first through Tom, Dick and Harry, who then act as advocates before God. God now has hundreds of spiritual mediators, administrative helpers, screeners and facilitators.
This man made army of would be semi-divine assistants represents the window dressing man places around the simply defined yet infinitely powerful concepts of grace and singularity surrounding God. A triune Godhead, yes, in terms of how he has manifested Himself. One way he has done that, in the person of His Son. That so we would have a personal link to Him in a way we can understand. We can know him through His Son Jesus. Thus, we have the only mediator we need.
