Online Bible Verses - 2nd Peter 1:4 Traps Are Out There
“Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.” 2 Peter 1:4
Was able to spend some time with my boys this weekend; ran around after church, stopped and had breakfast, went to Costco, Barnes and Noble…. It’s just fun being with them. Sometimes you get dragged into some unplanned stops, have to be ready for that. Manny wanted to stop and look at some of the chicken coops some guy was selling, for the purposes of planning and comparison. We have chickens, and he has embarked on designing/building his own coop(s). Turns out the chicken coop lot is right next to a “gentlemen’s club”; strip joint for clarity. Only in North Carolina, could you negotiate price on a chicken coop than go next store to watch women dance.
As it often does, the focus of conversation centered upon what was taking place next door. I have explained it to my kids before, it still comes up. What do they wear, who goes in there, should we go in and tell them to find another job…………… Then the inevitable question gets asked once again, “Daddy have you ever been in a place like that..” , “What does Mommy think….”.
And the conversation, I think appropriately so, always ends up referencing God’s word; that along with some honest answers from me. I explain how people can get trapped into foolish pursuits, those that offer absolutely nothing to be gained. In actuality, they can only leave us worse off. Yet, at the onset, things can appear attractive. That is how people get roped into drug abuse, gambling, what happens next to the chicken coop lot,….. Lots of traps out there. You decide to test the waters, then get caught in a current much stronger than you ever would have thought. So strong, in fact, that some people never come out of it.
God sets boundaries. He sets them not to ruin our fun, but to protect us from what appears fun yet, in actuality, will hurt us. Like the chicken coop we have. It is there to protect the chickens, who cannot protect themselves. If the coop is not strong and robust, predators will get in at night and kill. We, likewise, are in danger when the world encourages us to extend or re-draw God’s clearly defined boundaries of protection out into dangerous territory.
