Abraham, Isaac and the Ressurection
Jehovah Jireh
there must be faith
When you understand the God given dominion of man a lot of those Old Testament stories begin to come alive with reason and purpose. By reason and purpose I mean God’s reason and purpose for giving such odd commands to the patriarchs of the Old Testament.
It seems that God had a lot things He was trying to accomplish when He asked Abraham to sacrifice His only son Isaac. One thing of course is what the Angel told Abraham as he lifted the knife to take his only sons life.
Gen 22:12 And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.
He was testing Abraham. A test is given so the one taking the test can advance to the next grade, or the next level. So Abraham moved ahead in his relationship and understanding of Father God. Some how he must have got a glimpse of The Father giving His only begotten son many years later at Calvary.
Many other purposes were fulfilled or at least aimed at, one of which was the name of God that Abraham spoke at this scene
Jehovah-Jireh . The name meant the Jehovah will see (to it). Jehovah saw and made sure Abraham new that He(God) will provide the sacrifice.
But why the whole deal of Abraham sacrificing his son. One of the keys is given in
Gen 22:5 And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.
It seems Abraham had a confidence that himself and Isaac would return after they went to worship. If Abraham had not intended to kill his son God would not have acknowledged Abraham’s total obedience. So if Abraham was going to kill his son, then he must have believed that Isaac was going to be raised from the dead.
Finally God had gotten what He wanted from Abraham ‘faith to raise the dead’ was released in the earth!
Its probably not a coincidence that there is not a recorded account of someone being raised from the dead till after this incidence concerning Abraham’s faith. Every thing worked towards God’s plan to bring the messiah to earth to die and raise again.
Understanding the dominion God gave man in Genesis really paints a different picture of the goodness and perseverance of our loving Father
