Abraham's Childlike Faith
The Childlike Faith of Abraham
Abraham believed the Lord and He credited it to him as righteousness.(Genesis 15:6)
God calls Abraham his "friend". There is indeed a very deep and strong friendship between God and Abraham. What made Abraham God's friend? If there is one thing in Abraham which pleases God most, it is Abraham's childlike faith.
During one night, when the Lord took Abraham outside his house and shew him the great numbers of stars in the heavens and told Abraham that his descendants will be as numerous as those stars, the Lord was greatly pleased when Abraham believed and credited it to him as righteousness. I may say, to be a friend of God, you must first posssess a childlike faith as Abraham has.
What is a childlike faith ? A childlike faith is trusting God without reservations. It is a complete belief in God without wavering nor doubting, with complete confidence upon God's power and capability to fulfill His promises. It is complete, unwavering confidence upon God's faithfulness. It also requires a complete dependence upon God. A child believes everything his father promises without wavering. A child is also completely dependent upon is father.
Abraham possesses childlike faith, that is why he is very special to God. For Abraham, God is faithful to keep His promises to him. Abraham died without receiving what God had promised him, but he saw it all from a distance and welcomed the promises of God. He lived as a pilgrim in the world, though possessing so much but he was completely detached from all his earthly possessions. That is why he lived only in tents, not setting permanently on any place on earth. For Abraham is looking forward to a better place, a heavenly homeland, whose architect and builder is GOD
