Altars, Idols, Temples

Updated on January 20, 2016

the trappings of the world

Christians beware. Do not fall into the trappings of the world. There are many things that can distract Christians on a daily basis. But let me tell you of some of the trappings that many Christians are unaware of. Most people have at least one TV in their home and some have multiple. A TV is like an altar for people in their home. They sit infront of the tv (altar) worshipping their idols. The idols are actors, musicians, sports heroes, shows, movies or other ‘famous’ people or shows. People spend so much time at this altar that they can even give you all statistics of the idols they watch. Another thing some people do, is they go to a type of ‘church’ where they worship. These places are stadiums or concert halls where people go to worship their sports teams and/or a band or singer. When one looks at how much time and money is spent on these idols, this is when we can realize why the Christian church is not reaching the lost. People have become so focused on what is on tv or what band is coming to town than they are about the people who are lost or suffering. I have heard some people say that they have gotten rid of tv altogether; that isn't a bad thing. However, many people will not go to that extreme, but we all must get our priorities straight. Jesus must be number one in our life, and if we live with that in mind then the altar aka TV will no longer be a distraction and the idols will be cast away from our life. That is when we have our priorities straight and it is the beginning of living as Jesus lived. We must always be aware of satans scheme that he will always bring things into our lives in an attempt to distract us.

The TV is like an ancient Colosseum full of brutality and peep shows. Of course we don't have to watch that stuff, unfortunately "nude dating" ads come on during documentaries and kids shows.

That TV altar lost its place as a sacrament in my home. The really cool thing works. It shows us stuff. We learn about things from it. But no cable for this home. No networks. Very cool thought provoking hub, thank you
