Angel prayers

Updated on February 6, 2013

Your Guardian Angel Prayer

Angel of God, My Guardian Dear
to whom God's love commits me here.
Ever this day be at my side
to light and guard and rule and guide.
From the pain of sin please keep me free.
At the our of my death my helper be.
Amen

Saint Michael the Archangel Prayers

Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host -
by the Divine Power of God -
cast into hell, satan and all the evil spirits,
who roam throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen

Michael Michael of the morning
Fresh chord of dawn adorning
Keep me safe today
And in time of temptation
Drive the devil away.
Amen

Here's a real nice letter written to his Mom by a young Marine during the Korean War concerning the above St. Michael prayer. If you believe that the angels are sent to help us here on earth then you will love this story titled True story of a Soldier and the Intervention of St. Michael. Or you can listen to it in the video below.

Saint Gabriel the Archangel Prayers

Blessed Saint Gabriel, Archangel We beseech you to intercede for us at the throne of divine mercy: As you announced the mystery of the Incarnation to Mary, so through your prayers may we receive strength of faith and courage of spirit, and thus find favor with God and redemption through Christ Our Lord. May we sing the praise of God our Savior with the angels and saints in heaven forever and ever.
Amen

O God,
who from among all your angels
chose the Archangel Gabriel
to announce the mystery of the Incarnation,
mercifully grant that we
who solemnly remember him on earth
may feel the benefit of his patronage in heaven,
who lives and reigns for ever and ever.
Amen

Saint Raphael the Archangel Prayers

Prayer for Healing
Glorious Archangel St. Raphael, great prince of the heavenly court, you are illustrious for your gifts of wisdom and grace. You are a guide of those who journey by land or sea or air, consoler of the afflicted, and refuge of sinners.
I beg you, assist me in all my needs and in all the sufferings of this life, as once you helped the young Tobias on his travels. Because you are the "medicine of God" I humbly pray you to heal the many infirmities of my soul and the ills that afflict my body. I especially ask of you the favor (here mention your special intention), and the great grace of purity to prepare me to be the temple of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Prayer Before a Trip
Dear St. Raphael, your lovely name means "God heals." The Lord sent you to young Tobias to guide him throughout a long journey. Upon his return you taught him how to cure his father's blindness. How natural, therefore, for Christians to pray for your powerful help for safe travel and a happy return. This is what we ask for ourselves as well as for all who are far from home.
Amen

The Archangel Raphael is from the Book of Tobias in the Catholic Bible. It is one of the books that Protestants call Apocrypha. Since these books were found in the Dead Sea Scrolls at Qumran in 1947 there has been more attention drawn to them. I guess that is why the Apocrypha are now included in this online version of the King James Bible. It is called the book of Tobit there.

God bless
Mike

Yes Amanda, the archangels most certainly are awesome, incredible and holy. That's how God made them. God bless.

Your welcome Michael. I've never heard of that "spell" before. God bless.

Sweetlie I just finally noticed, after 5 months, the excellent East Timor angel story that you posted. What a beautiful story. Thank you very much for sharing it. I will be sharing it with others. It's too nice of a story not to. Anyone that visits this hub needs to read the East Timor angel story that Sweetlie posted. It is amazing. God bless you my friend. Thank you for a beautiful site, I like to express my thanks to the Angles for helping me

      Simple Wish Spell

Put three candles in the highest place you have at home, inside a plate with sugar all around the candles. Light the candles. Ask for three wishes to the angels ST. RAFAEL, ST. MICHAEL, and ST. GABRIEL. Ask one wish for business, one wish for love, and one impossible wish. Publish this spell on the third day after you requested the wishes (by mailing it to another person, posting it to a usenet newsgroup, or announcing your thanks to the saints in a newspaper classified ad) and see what happens on the fourth day...

I just said that based on your comment, I didn't think about that line (didn't know/forgot about it) from Rev. See how things come together? Maybe it's starting to make sense. Or it's just another "Mystery" (or a misspelling in the soldier's letter). So, what an interesting brainstorm we had. Thanks a lot!

You know Asker you may have something there with adorning as opposed to adoring. So "fresh chord of Heaven adorning" could actually be describing Archangel Michael as a fresh chord (a combination of notes blended harmoniously) of Heaven adorning (made more attractive with his music, power or authority furnished by the King). That's from the definition of adorn posted below. That does make more sense, doesn't it? Yeah I wouldn't doubt the soldier's mother made up the prayer and it got passed on.

      http://www.rhymezone.com/r/rhyme.cgi?Word=adorning...

Your last line "angels being capable of making a chord on their own, not something humans can do" reminded me of Revelations 14:2-3 "And I heard a voice from heaven ... and the voice which I heard, was as the voice of harpers, harping on their harps. And they sung as it were a new canticle, before the throne, ... and no man could say the canticle, but those hundred forty-four thousand, who were purchased from the earth."

Thanks a lot. I wasn't sure how to "interpret" it because it says "adorning" (not "adoring") like something worn like clothing/armor/etherial princely crown, but I wasn't sure if it had something to do with music instead. Yes, I love the story and so far have only hear of this prayer from it or from people talking about it (maybe a prayer the soldier's mother made up and passed on). Thanks for answering my question so quickly, too. I like your interpretation of it, angels being capable of making a chord on their own, not something humans can do. beautiful thought.

Hi Asker. I imagine it's describing Archangel Michael as a fresh chord (a combination of notes blended harmoniously) of Heaven adoring God. You may have heard of the choir of angels singing continual praise of God. I tried to find the history of the short prayer. I thought it may have been part of the longer version of the 'Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle' prayer composed by Pope Leo XIII but it's not. Never the less it's a nice prayer. 'St. Michael and Michael’s Story' is a real nice story about a Korean War Marine who recited the prayer daily then received physical protection from St. Michael. I'm sure you'll like the story.

what does "Fresh chord of dawn adorning " mean? (I've seen it more often as "fresh chord of Heaven adorning" either way, what does it mean?)

Well thank you Tina. I'm glad you like it. Yeah with the Dead Sea Scrolls proving the other books should be in the Bible we should expect Christians of all denominations to come flooding into Catholic Churches anytime now. Just joking. :-)

I still haven't managed to get back to reading your other Hubs Tina but after reading your experience with your guardian angel I do still plan to. I am writing this here just to make a note of it. :-)

      Mike -

      This is a beautiful hub!

I didn't know about the information in the last paragraph regarding the Dead Sea Scrolls and the resulting "King James Bible" (online) revision, or rather, yet ANOTHER revision (hee, hee). I like how you got that in as "a finale". VERY cool.
