Are you nuts

Updated on January 13, 2013

How many times have you heard that?

Because the Sovereign Lord helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore have I set my face like flint, and I know I will not be put to shame. Isaiah 50:7 New International Version

How many times have you heard the calling from God and when you shared it with your family their instant reply is:” What are you, nuts?!!”

We will say you have a very good career at a hospital, make very good wages, have a nice home and are living very comfortably. Then you get the call from God to resign your position, sell your house and go work with missionaries in the jungles in poor villages in South America. Everybody will fight you except the most important one Jesus.

When I was a teenager I constantly had people tell me I should do this with my life while others would tell me I should do that. It drove me nuts. I was not a strong Christian then and did not have an intimate relationship with Jesus so He did not guide me. My choices sometimes led to a lot of very hard times for me but it was a learning process. God was teaching me: Do not listen to them, do not listen to yourself, listen to me. Now that is not to say we should not listen to our elders or to guidance councilors. But, the important thing is to always take it to God and listen to him. Perhaps he will speak to you through elders or councilors, perhaps another way. For me it was always tiny little ads in a newspaper. We didn’t have the internet back then. Wow, I’m ancient ain’t I?

Prayer: Thank you Jehovah Rohi (God is our Shepherd) for guiding me into the service for your kingdom that You have prepared for me. Thank you for helping me to have faith and giving me the strength to follow that calling even though there was stiff opposition, rejection and mockery by others. I give thanks for this wonderful blessing in the name of the greatest Shepherd Jesus Christ. Amen.

May the sunshine of Jesus’ sweet love bless you today and every day.

      Good morning Lady E.

I believe whenever we have vivid dreams it is God talking with us. That is why when we wake up we should record them on an mp3 so they can be reviewed later after pray.

God bless you with wonderful revelations in your dreams.

Absolutely beautiful and Inspiring to read. You stood strong in faith knowing who you were and where you were going to. In a way, it reminds me of Joseph and his dream. His brothers ridiculed him, but inspite of every trial - God's favour was mighty on him (even in Prison) and at the appointed time, that Dream came true. He met his purpose.

He wasn't nuts. ;-) God Bless.

It is important to be respectful of other people. Good for you.

It has taken God fifteen years of walking with me thrungh many troubles, toils and snares to mold me into being what He wants me to be now.

I sometimes am called nutty for believing like i do, but it doesn't bother me because i've learned that people have their own beliefs and i accept that. I see that you survived and living the life you desire. That's wonderful. Thank you for sharing...

      Good morning shofarcall

That is very true and from my experiance and most of those I know the worst offenders are family.

      Good morning rgmg and Michele.

When I was studying psychology many years ago, one of the first things teacher taught is is that we are all crazy. If you do not fit into what someone considers normal they consider you crazy. The vegetarions think meat eaters are crazy and the meat eaters thing the vegetarians are crazy is a classic example.

Indeed, when Jesus was eating with sinners his mother and brothers came to get Him because they thought He was crazy.

If you are looked upon as being crazy for following the call Jesus has led you to, consider it a badge of honour rather than a weight of burden. Joseph- Anthony: Green

May God bless my precious little sisters with beautiful badges of honour.

Teacherjoe, great hub. I sometimes think I have gone past the 'are you nuts?' stage to the 'she is nuts'.

What I do know is when God has called you, you obey. It is irrelevant to you how it seems - nuts or not.

      Hi teacherjoe,

Yes, there will always be those attempting to prevent us from doing and going where we are prompted to. As Jesus said to Peter: "Get ye behind me Satan" The sad thing is that because those people do not know God, they do not even realise they are being used as a prevention mechanism regarding Christs calling to you.

Father we pray for all our family and friends' eyes to be opened to see your works. God Bless.
