Article #3 The Lord’s Desolating Scourge

Updated on August 15, 2019

Captain Sallenbach has had a lifelong interest in prophecies that must come to pass in the last days before the Second Coming of the Messiah

Of special note is the series of prophecies which deal with a terrible sickness which God will pour out upon the earth during this period (before the second coming of the Messiah). After telling of the time of the Gentiles and stating that they will turn their hearts from him because of the precepts of men, the Lord said,

. . . in that generation shall the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled (global missionary force called home). And there shall be men standing in that generation, that shall not pass until they shall see an overflowing scourge; for a desolating sickness shall cover the land.

But my disciple shall stand in holy places, and shall not be moved; but among the wicked, men shall lift up their voices and curse God and die.

And there shall be earthquakes also in divers’ places, and many desolations; yet men will harden their hearts against me (the Lord), and they will take up the sword, one against another, and they will kill one another. . .

For a desolating scourge shall go forth among the inhabitants of the earth, and shall continue to be poured out from time to time, if they repent not, until the earth is empty, and the inhabitants thereof are consumed away and utterly destroyed by the brightness of my coming.

In 1832 the Lord gave the warning that

I, the Almighty, have laid my hands upon the nations, to scourge them for their wickedness.

And plagues shall go forth, and they shall not be taken from the earth until I have completed my work (the Messiah’s return in glory), which shall be cut short in righteousness.

Prophecies Received by Divine Authority

The Lord Jesus Christ reveals these last-day prophecies to his authorized prophet of today who holds the Priesthood keys, first received by divine messengers May, 1829. Before today, all his divinely appointed predecessors have held these same keys during this earthly period known as the last dispensation of the fullness of times,

Why does the Lord Reveal Prophetic Warnings to Us?

His love for us, manifested by the incomprehensible suffering He voluntarily took upon Himself in Gethsemane and on the Cross, help us to understand why. He repeatedly pleads with us to live righteous lives individually and as a nation (expand that to mean world), that we might be blessed to return to him for all eternity. Since no unclean thing can dwell in his presence of God, Christ’s grace will bridge the gap between our unworthiness and our being acceptable to live in his presence, provided we earnestly endeavor to continually repent of our sins during this earthly journey, with real intent, having faith in Him. Those daily choices we now make that are contrary to the many scriptures that tell us what he expects of us should be clear enough. Anyone who believes in death bed repentance really doesn’t understand the scriptures, in my opinion.

The Slippery Slope We’re On

The world is rapidly sliding down the slope of sin and rebellion against almost everything He has told us we should be doing. What used to be sinful and evil is now generally considered by the world to be socially acceptable and okay. The standards that most people used to hold inviolate have increasingly been washed away down the slippery slope of indifference, selfishness and pride. In this state, the prophecies He has and will yet reveal to his prophet will surely come to pass.
