Understanding The Bible
The Bible is a timeless text of perennial wisdom. It tells us not only of God and mankind, but it also guides us on our path as spiritual beings in human bodies.
Though the Bible sometimes seems inapproachable and complex, these studies are designed to make the Bible accessible to everyone and applicable to everyday life.
This study uses the SOAP technique: Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer. As you read through and study the bible, and a verse sticks out to you, write it down. Then write down your personal observations regarding the scripture, along with historical notations and any other pertinent information. After you make a thorough observation of the scripture, meditate on how you might apply the lesson learned to your own life. How can you use this particular verse to improve your life or make your spiritual journey better? Finally, write out a prayer to God, as you think about the scripture.
This technique will help you find more meaning from your study of scripture, and will help deepen your walk along a spiritual path.
Namaste Friends.
Scripture: Psalm 16:7-9
Psalm 16:7-9 "7. I will bless the Lord, who hath given me counsel: my reigns also instruct me in the night seasons. 8. I have set the Lord always before me: He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. 9. Therefore, my heart is glad and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope." King James Version
Psalm 16:7-9 "7. I will praise the Lord who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. 8. I keep my eyes always on the Lord; with him at my right hand, I will not be shaken. 9. Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure." New International Version
Psalm 16:7-9 "7. I will bless the Lord who has counseled me; indeed my heart (mind) instructs me in the night.8. I have set the Lord continually before me; Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. 9. Therefore my heart is glad and my glory (my innermost self) rejoices; my body too will dwell (confidently) in safety." Amplified Bible
Observation
Observation: We do have a delightful inheritance in the Lord - we glorify him with our praise. He counsels us and even at night the Lord can speak to the very depths of your heart and soul.
When we sleep, God works in us to resolve the issues and conflicts that plague us. Not only through our dreams, which can seem so random, but that often have a deeper meaning. We can also receive wisdom while we sleep. If you find yourself troubled or worried, give it to the Lord in prayer, as you end your day and prepare to sleep. Ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom and guidance, and then quiet your heart. In the morning, before you begin the day, lay quietly for a moment and pray again. Listen for that small, still voice of God. He speaks to the inmost parts of your soul. He will speak to you, if you will quiet yourself and listen. Wait for an answer and it will come.
Heavenly Father sets a firm foundation from which we cannot be shaken. He will guide and direct our steps and our words, if we allow it. When we let God direct our day, we find that the blessings of the Lord unfold before us.
Because of this stability and the freedom which comes from security, let your heart be glad. Know that you cannot be shaken. Let your mouth rejoice and praise the Creator, and let your heart and soul find peace in his strength.
Application
Application: I will ask God to direct me today. I will seek his guidance, then wait quietly. Although the answer may not appear right away, or in the form I am expecting, I can be at peace, knowing that God is sovereign. The small still voice of God will speak to my heart.
There is no rush, no need to hurry, and no need to be impatient. The Lord's timing is perfect, and in this perfection, I can find peace. My timing is imperfect, and selfish. I will wait quietly for the Lord to move in my life.
Prayer
Prayer: Lord guide me today and quiet my heart, that I will hear and follow you. Give me ears to hear and a heart to understand the messages you deliver throughout the day. Father, allow me the peace to listen patiently, waiting for your direction and calling.
Grant me patience to wait for your perfect timing, and your perfect direction.
Finally Lord, I rejoice for all the many wonders you have given me, not only today, but throughout my life. Let me never loose sight of how blessed my life is, and how great you are.
Amen
