"BROTHER BEN GOT REDEMPTION"

April Poetry Month

If you are looking for deep poetry, stop right here!

Today I am being persuaded toward another realm.

Maybe it was the Easter service pulling at my spiritual psyche.

A fellow singer once invited me to his church to witness how he worshipped and I will never forget it!

Hats! I do believe that the inspiration for the hats worn at Prince William and Kate's wedding, was inspired from the Ebenezer Baptist Church.

And did you know that organ playing was a very important part of the preachers message?

It helps to emphasize the words and phrases of the preacher. It builds and builds to a point to drive the message home.

Did you know that they actually have lessons on how to become a preacher backup organist?

On the end of this hub is a video of an organist backing up a sermon.

Let me tell you, when I left that day,

I felt like

I had really

been to church!

And as usual,

I had to pen it.

Poem # 10

Old Brotha Ben was a foot stompin’ man

Singin’ and shoutin’ and clappin’ his hands

Telling all the congregation

How to get to the promise land

Ben knew the Bible

And all about teachin’

But Ben didn’t go around

Practicing his preachin’

Seems there was a woman in the church

By the name of Cynthia Brown

She strutted around in high heel shoes

Her décolleté with tempting views

Was enough to make a preacher like Ben

Lay his Bible down

Old Ben fell hard, as Cynthia tempted

But felt the need to be redempted

So he went before the church

And fell to his knees in sin

He poured himself out

To the fold

Cried out to God to save his soul

And the deacons in the front row pew

Shouted out, Amen!

The man at the organ heard their pleas

Running his fingers up and down the keys

And the whole church stood

And started to sing and sway

A A A men, A AA men, A A men

Amen, Amen.

Shout it from the roof top

A A A. . . Little baby Jesus

A A A . . .Came to save the sinner

A A Men

Amen, Amen
