CHRIST - Our Real Treasure

CHRIST - The Real Treasure

“Since then you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above where Christ is seated at the right hand of God . Set your minds on things above where Christ is seated at the right hand of God . Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. “

Colossians 3 :1-2

It is about a week after typhoon “Ketsana” ravaged the whole city of Metro Manila. About 80 % of Metro Manila was submerged under water. Almost every resident of Metro Manila felt the pangs of the typhoon. Even those living in highend subdivisions were not spared. Both rich and poor felt the cruelty of the typhoon.

A director of a renowned TV station in Manila had his four expensive luxury vehicles submerged under the floods. A popular TV comedian’s multimillion house was destroyed by the floods. Many have lost their houses and all their appliances were washed out. Many valuable assets which have been products of years of hard work were all washed out in a single day.

Even me and my family were not spared from the calamity. Flood waters entered our house and it rose above our waist level. This happened in just a sudden that we have no much time to spare many of our valuable belongings. My sister’s laptop got submerged in the water, our digital printing machine, washing machine and refrigerator were also submerged under water. I lost many of my valuable books.

About afternoon of Saturday, September 26, 2009, the water level inside our house rose to above our waist. The water level rose rapidly. I was praying hard at that time that the rains would stop. If the rains would not stop, the water level would go higher and would even reach above our heads. The good Lord have been merciful and heard our prayers. Though the the typhoon was still in the vicinity, the rainings suddenly stopped when evening came and the water level did not rise any further until it receded the next morning.

There is one great thing I learned from our experience with typhoon “Ketsana”, That we should never set our hearts on material things the world could offer. These material things could be taken away from us in just a sudden. We should be contented in having the basic things of life. Jesus is the real treasure that we can never lost whatever happen to us. All the material things of the world could offer could be lost in just a sudden.

We can never rest our confidence upon anything the world could offer may it be houses, cars, computers, books or anything material. All these things are bound to be lost anytime. Only in Christ we can rest our perfect security. Truly CHRIST alone is the true treasure. Whatever happen to us, we will never lose CHRIST. So we have to set our hearts on heavenly things, where CHRIST is seated at the right hand of God.
