Charity On A Daily Basis
And now abideth faith, hope, charity these three; but the greatest is charity. ~1 Corinthians 13:13~
Charity is simply an expression of love and kindness toward others. When we say we love someone, it comes natural to put their needs above our own. We esteem others higher than ourselves.
When we think of charity, most of the time we think of donating money to organizations and good causes. Charity can be expressed in a number of ways: volunteering, giving to the needy, spending time with the sick, donating time to a good cause, and offering a listening ear to those who are depressed and hurting. These are all good ways to perform Christian charity.
One of the things that i have noticed here in America, charity gets really big around the holidays. What about all the other days of the year? Surely charity is needed on other days. Churches and organizations need help on a daily basis; people get sick on a daily basis, The hungry has to be fed on a daily basis, love and encouragement is needed on a daily basis. Charity should be performed on a daily basis.
When i think of charity, I remember some really important words that were once said by Mother Teresa of Calcutta, she said: "Thoughtfulness is the beginning of great sanctity. If you learn the art of being thoughtful, you will become more and more christ-like, for his heart was meek and he always thought of others. Our vocation, to be beautiful, must be full of thoughts for others". Let us take these words and ponder them in our hearts.
May God greatly enrich the lives of those whom read these words.
