Creflo Dollar Arrested
15 Year Old Daughter Choked
Creflo Dollar, pastor of World Changers Church International in College Park, Georgia, has been arrested on charges of choking, punching and kicking his 15 year old daughter. It was his daughter who called the police.
Whether or not the allegations are true will be up to the courts to decide. However, it presents an opportunity to look at some of his teachings.
Redefining God
Dollar maintains that Jesus didn't come as God, but as a man, and that He wasn't perfect. As evidence the points to the fact that, according to Scripture, Jesus slept. Since God doesn't sleep or slumber, Jesus couldn't have been God at that time.1 This misconception is corrected in John 1:14. Dollar does hold that Jesus is God, but that apparently took place at some later time.
Man is a god
Dollar believes that "you are gods because you came from God and you are gods."2 He has even implied that Adam was an exact duplicate of God and was put in charge of the planets. Presumably Adam, then, could fly, something that Benny Hinn once taught. It's also reminiscent of Mormon leader Brigham Young who once said that he thought people lived on the moon! Once again, Scripture puts the lie to that claim in numerous passages such as Isaiah 43:10 which state that there are no other gods, except false gods.
A different gospel
When someone presents to their viewers a different Jesus and a different god, he invariably begins teaching a different gospel.
Dollar maintains that the gospel to the poor is one of prosperity and that you can't help the poor if you don't preach the gospel of wealth.3 For Dollar it isn't enough to preach salvation, but health and wealth as well. Naturally, he is a perfect role model with his lavish lifestyle - funded, of course, by the generous donations of those gullible enough to believe him.
A Teacher to be Avoided
These aren't isolated teachings, but things he repeats over and over again in his messages. Dollar says that his mentor was Kenneth Copeland, a man who claims to know how tall Jesus is - after all, Copeland has seen Jesus in person! Undoubtedly, if Copeland had really seen Jesus, Christ would have instantly turned him to cinder for the things he puts over on his followers.
Guilty or not of the assault charges, it should be easy to see that anyone teaching such blatantly false doctrines, as Dollar does, should be avoided at all costs. This isn't the Jesus of the Bible nor the Gospel of the Bible. Jesus does not guarantee health and wealth to anyone. Such teachers are a blight on Christianity, giving non-believers a distorted view of the Gospel.
