Daily Mass Reflections - 10/13
While Jesus was speaking, a woman from the crowd called out and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that carried you and the breasts at which you nursed." He replied, "Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it." ~ Luke 11:27-38
The all-encompassing, all-powerful familial love of Jesus is on display in today’s Gospel, wherein Jesus offers each of his beloved children the opportunity to be gloriously blessed.
We of course already know that our eternal mother Mary is in fact “blessed among women,” her glory as the Queen of Heaven undisputed. But what an immensely generous promise from an immensely generous God is made to us today.
We belong to so much more then merely our earthly families. We are part of the “mystical body and blood of Jesus Christ” as St. Paul tirelessly taught us, bound by our beautiful Church, the Sacraments and the Communion of Saints, who are also a part of our family. Do you talk to them regularly? These gifts allow us to sift through the clutter of the secular world and envision our journey as God desires. Today’s Psalm (105) give us a number of ways in which we can realize this vision:
“....proclaim all his wondrous deeds.”
“Look to the Lord in his strength; seek to serve him constantly.”
“He the Lord, is our God; through the earth his judgements prevail.”
Praise God, who is our hope and our salvation.
