Daily Mass Reflections - 6/25
“God made man in his own image....and man is forever trying to repay the favor” ~ Mark Twain
Today’s Gospel (Matthew 7:1-5) reminds us of our need as Christians to leave judgement of others up to God as we seek and strive to rid ourselves of our own flaws and imperfections.
it is however however critical to make the distinction between judging others and defending the truth. Speaking out against the sin of abortion for instance, whether it be at the water cooler, the ballot box or even amongst close friends, is the responsibility of any genuine Catholic, especially in a day and age when public sentiment is shifting against many of God’s laws and precepts.
Judge? Never. Defend the truth? Always.
With regard to the examination of our own conscience via the use of honest introspection, I defer to Bishop Barron in his morning reflection today when he says a failure to do so results in “fundamentally looking away from our guilt, our fault, our darkness. We are effectively drugging ourselves, dulling the pain of real self-consciousness. In the process, we turn ourselves into God, pretending to be absolute, flawless, and impervious to criticism.”
As always I welcome your thoughts and prayer requests, so please feel free to leave them in the Comments Section below.
