Don't Let Them In!
Where Did This Urban Legend Come From?
While it is claimed that these children have been around sparsely since the 1980's, it wasn't until 1996 when reporter Brian Bethel posted on a ghost related mailing list that people really became aware of them. He was posting his answer to someone else who had seen them as well. This began the official sightings of black eyed children.
For anyone who is unfamiliar with the main points of this urban legend I will explain them here.
- They are described as children between the ages of 5-16, but have been younger a few times.
- They always show up in pairs.
- They will approach you or knock on your door and ask for things such as to use your phone, bathroom, ask for a ride somewhere, a snack, or just to be let into your home or vehicle.
- Nobody knows for sure exactly what these things are. It is speculated that they could be extraterrestrials, inner-dimensional beings, demons, vampires, the souls of murdered children.
The mystery of what they are will continue to be unsolved because most people who see these children do not let them into their cars or homes because of the feelings that they invoke. Those feelings are described as feelings of unease or dread followed by overwhelming fear that freezes one to the spot.
Why Do They Look Out Of Place?
Whenever anyone describes seeing the black eyed children, there is one thing that is always constant in their description and that is they look out of place. Most often they are described as being dressed out of date with the girls having very long straight hair and the boys having old fashioned hair cuts. Their manner or speech is also very different. It is described as very proper and mannered. Last, but not least their skin is pale, deathly pale, the type of pale described in vampire novels.
What Happens When You Let Them In?
In researching, there is only one occasion where someone has let them in and was able to tell the tale afterward.
This occurred during a snowstorm in Vermont, the year is unknown. An elderly couple were awakened in the middle of the night be a knocking on their door. Since they lived near a highway they figured it was just someone who'd run off the road and needed help. The woman wasn't prepared for what she saw when she opened the front door. There stood two children who were clearly not old enough to be by themselves and also not dressed accordingly for the weather. It was a boy and a girl. The girl spoke up, "May we come in, our parents will be here soon?" Even though the couple was uneasy about seeing children out in the middle of the night alone, they let them in anyhow.
As the children sat on the sofa, the woman went to the kitchen to make them hot chocolate. Her husband sat in the living room with them asking questions that went unanswered. When the woman returned with the hot chocolate she noticed that the cat was scared and had gone to hide behind the sofa. The girl then asked "May we use your bathroom," and this is when she looked at the woman and the woman finally saw their eyes. Eyes that were as black as a moonless night. She pointed them towards the bathroom and went back to her husband who had his hands over his face. When she moved his hands she saw that he was having a bloody nose.
As the woman uncovered her husbands face the power went out and the children now emerged from the bathroom, announcing that their parents were there, before walking out the front door, leaving it wide open. The woman went to close the door and look. In the driveway stood the two children and two men who'd come to collect them.
A short time after they left the power came back on, but in the days and weeks to come strange things began to happen. Three of the couples four cats ran away and the fourth was found dead in a puddle of blood a short time later. The husband continued to have nose bleeds and was soon diagnosed with an aggressive form of skin cancer that only comes from those who spend excessive amounts of time in a tanning bed.
Just knowing this makes one wonder just how many other people have let them in, but never said anything. Did they get sick or did something more sinister happen to them, maybe never to be heard from again.
A Government Experiment In Making Hybrids?
One lesser known theory on what the black eyed children actually are doesn't seem so far fetched to many. What if the government has been experimenting at making human alien hybrids and these black eyed children are the product of those experiments? It would make sense because of their pure black eyes and chalky white skin. They would have to be hybrids that came from the breeding of humans and they greys. Those large black eyes.
The Iroquois Had A Legend...
The only real explanation for the black eyed children comes from the Iroquois Indians who believed in an evil power called Otkon. This Otkon was said to take over children and there was also an evil one who could mate with women in order to produce black eyed, chalky pale skinned, demon children.
Any child found wandering alone in the woods was subject to being taken by the Otkon and turned into a black eyed, pale chalky white skinned demon child.
Perhaps this makes the most sense out of all the other possible theories. The Native Americans have some interesting legends that tend to have some sort of warning or lesson attached to them.
