EZEKIEL 37 : Fulfillment of A Prophecy
ZEKIEL 37: FULFILLMENT OF A PROPHECY
The hand of the Lord was upon me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the Lord and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” I said, “O Sovereign Lord, you alone know.” Then he said to me. “Prophecy to these bones and say to them,” Dry bones, hear the Word of the Lord! This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath, enter you and you will come to life. I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin, I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’”
So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, There was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone. I looked and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them.
Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man and say to it. ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come from the four winds, O breath and breathe into these laid, That they may live!” So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet – a vast army.
Then he said to me: “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. They say, ‘Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone, we are cut off.’ Therefore prophesy and say to them” ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: O my people I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel. Then you, my people will know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves and bring you up from them. I will put my spirit in your and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken, and I have done it, declares the Lord.’”
Ezekiel 37:1-14
On May 14, 1948 a great historical event occurred that traces its beginning to World War I. Against all human reasoning a nation that had been dead for nineteen hundred years suddenly came to life. On that day the world took a giant step closer to the end of the age, for Israel became a self-governing nation just as the prophets had foretold.
So many scriptures refer to the nationhood of Israel in the last days that godly writers as far back as the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries were bold enough to make such prediction. Naturally they were laughed at because the Turkish control of Palestine, made such as possibility highly unlikely.
That the national Israel exists today is nothing short of a miracle. After twenty-five hundred years without self-government and eighteen hundred years without a national home, she has every reason to be extinct. In all the annals of history, no other people deprived of their homeland has been able to maintain the identity and resurrect its country. (Tim La Haye, 1991).
In A.D. 70 the armies of Titus destroyed the city of Jerusalem and drove the Jews out of the Holy Land. For nineteen hundred years the only evidence that they would one day be gathered existed in the Word of God.
The story of Israel rebirth started way back 1917. By 1916 the war was going adversely for England. German machine guns and other advanced weapons were cutting down the flower of Europe’s manhood. England was desperate to find a rapid method of manufacturing TNT and a smokeless gun powder. A brilliant Jew named Chaim Weizmann invented such a formula that made the rapid production of these vital materials, thus changing the course of the war. In return, Lloyd George, representing the British government, told Dr. Weizmann to name his reward. Dr. Weizmann requested that Palestine be declared the national homeland for Jewish people. Consequently the Balfour Declaration was drawn up and signed on Nov. 2, 1917. This declaration favors the establishment of a national home for the Jewish people in Palestine.
Then from the signing of this treaty, there is a gradual migration of the Jews to the Palestine. In the early days, the Jews purchased with Zionist funds 350,000 acres of land, primarily for agricultural purposes. That God’s blessing is upon this movement seems to be indicated by the amazing increase in rainfall throughout Palestine that anointed the soil of the Jews and produced crops of astounding proportions.
Britain revoked her 1917 treaty and in 1939, after such deliberation over the increasing conflicts between the Arabs and the Jews, she issued a white paper that favored Arabs independence and control of the area. After her failure to maintain peace between Arabs and the Jews following World War II, the British withdraw from Palestine, shortly thereafter the National Council and the General Zionist Council proclaimed from Tel Aviv the establishment of the SovereignState of Israel, David Ben Gurion was appointed Prime Minister. Both the United States and Russian recognized the new nation and after much debate, was accepted as a member nation into the United Nation.
The devil has tried his very best to prevent the resurrection of Israel as a nation. He used Adolf Hitler and its Third Reich in exterminating all of the Jewish race. The devil had tried his very best to prevent the fulfillment of Ezekiel 37. But the Word of God is always bound to came to pass, no forces in the universe, or earth, or hell can stop it from happening. God’s plan can never be thwarted.
What is the secret of Israel’s Immortality.
The answer to this question is found in the promises of God to Israel: “The Lord’s portion in His people; Jacob is the lot of His inheritance”. “I am the Lord, I change not, Therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.”
(Deut 32:9, Malachi 3:6)
The phenomenon of Israel should convince doubting, individuals that God keeps his promises.
The fulfillment of the Bible Prophesy in Ezekiel 37, is a very powerful testimony that indeed the Bible is the infallible Word of God. It is a very strong testimony about the existence of the all knowing Sovereign Lord of the Universe, who is no other than the God of Israel, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
The fulfillment of Ezekiel 37 prophesy exhorts us believers, to maintain our confidence in the Word of God, to continue on trusting the Lord’s faithfulness to keep His promises to us, His precious children.
Even though the waiting may take for years or even decades, we should hold on firmly to faith. Remember, Israel waited for 1900 years to be resurrected again as a nation.
While waiting for an answer to our prayers, the Lord is working on our lives, building our character.
As one popular Pastor says, the Lord is more interested in building our character rather than giving us comfort.
