Fasting and Prayer for Healing - Spritiual Breakthrough

Updated on February 28, 2010

Understanding Key Bible principles for Fasting and Prayer

Job 23:12 NKJ

I Have Not Departed From The Commandment Of His Lips;
I Have Treasured The Words Of His Mouth More Than My Necessary Food.

What are the words of his mouth? In Mathew 6, Jesus himself when giving the Sermon on the Mount and teaching the Beatitudes describes three important activities for a Christian - verse 2-”When you give”, verse 5 - “When you pray” and verse 16 - “When you fast”. Usually as Christians, we fulfill the first two duties well, but the last duty as a Christian to fast, is typically ignored.

We usually do not want to upset “King Stomach”. There are numerous examples in the Bible where because of the cravings of the stomach, people have lost their blessings and their inheritances. Do not eat out of your blessings because you are not able to control your stomach.

Easu, for his stomach, because he felt hungry for a mere lentil soup, he traded his birthright with Jacob. According to the Jews, the eldest child would have twice the inheritance of the younger ones. He lost all his blessings because of this costly mistake.

Eve, saw the the fruit was good and it looked delicious (pleasing to the eye) and it deceived her causing her to sin. It put them into a situation where they had to hide from the presence of God instead of enjoying their daily walk with God.

The disciples could not cast an evil spirit out and Jesus talks to the disciple about faith. Everybody usually reads verses 19 and 20, however the 21st verse holds the key.

Matthew 17:19-21 (King James Version)

19 - Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?

20 - And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

21 - Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

Verse 21 shows fasting and prayer can break the bondages in your family that have persisted for years. If you have been praying for something for years, Fasting and prayer can release the supernatural blessings that you always desired.
