Be Heavenly Minded

“Set your affection on things above not on things on the earth.”

Colossians 3:2 (KJV)

A truly beautiful woman in God’s eyes is heavenly minded. Though she lives for today, her life is not established in present realities, but her affection is on heavenly things. Heaven is in her heart. She has no desire for worldly things as well as worldly affairs. Her focus is on preparing herself to be the virgin bride for Christ.

This kind of woman will not give room for short-term worldly romantic affairs but will constantly guard her heart against all that will ruin her testimony and her relationship with God which she considers her ultimate treasure. Her life indeed is a display window of God's glory. She is firmly convinced that this world is not her permanent home. She is looking forward to a heavenly City.

The best is yet to come for a Christian. Every child of God has a great future awaiting her for there are so much great things stored for her in heaven. A Christian woman is not to focus her mind on earthly things only, she has to live also with her hearts focused in heaven. By being heavenly minded, she will no longer fear death that much, but she will consider it as one great event to look forward to in her life. Being a Christian she has a heavenly hope, and this is sufficient to make her victorious over death. Death holds no power over her, for she is heaven bound.

A remarkable woman in Jesus times was the woman named Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist. Both Elizabeth and her husband Zechariah were upright in the sight of God. They observed all the Lord’s commandments and regulation faithfully as commended by the writer of the Gospel of Luke. She is one of the first women who addressed Christ, as Lord even still in his mother's womb. Her name "Elizabeth" means to set aside for God. She was able to train her son John in the ways of true righteousness, fit to become the one who prepares the way of the Lord.

Truly Elizabeth is a beautiful woman whose heart dwells on heavenly things.

(Bible Text: Luke Chapter 1)

Annie is such a lovely woman who makes heads turn but she is resolved to preserve her purity that she will never give way to short-term worldly romantic affairs. Although desiring an earthly marriage, she will rather wait on the Lord's timing rather than compromise her biblical standards. She set in her heart not to engage in any romantic relationships that will violate biblical principles. She will rather remain single living in the center of God’s will rather than engage herself in affairs that contradict her conviction as a Christian.

Annie was able to stand for truth and preserve her purity because of her heavenly-mindedness. Her heart is fixed on the ‘blessed hope'. She wants marriage with Christ in heaven more than an earthly marriage with a man she desires. For her, Christ is her eternal bridegroom. Because she holds on daily to her ‘blessed hope', she remains firm in her biblical convictions. A true bride of Christ holds on to the blessed hope and will never be disobedient to the heavenly vision.

Be committed to heavenly calling, set your affection on heavenly things.

“To go to heaven, fully to enjoy God, is infinitely better than the most pleasant accommodations here.” - Jonathan Edwards-

“I would not give one moment of heaven for all the joy and riches of the world, even if it lasted for thousands and thousands of years.” -Martin Luther-
