Gentleness and Majesty
Say to daughter Zion,
'See your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey'
Matthew 21:5 NIV
What could be an ideal concept for a king?
He could be somebody like King David, a mighty man of valor who had slain his ten thousands from the enemy's camp or just someone exactly liked Alexander, the Great who had conquered the kingdoms of the world in his youth.
The word 'king' symbolizes might, courage, strength, power, dominion, leadership or rulership. He must be the most powerful, mightiest and strongest man in his kingdom.
But the 'King' who entered Jerusalem on the first Palm Sunday was entirely a different genre. Instead of selecting a fierce stallion fit for a warrior-king , this humble king from Nazareth had simply chosen a baby donkey for his transport. What a great display of perfect humility. This king from Nazareth is the future King of kings and Lord of lords. One day, all powers in the entire universe will vow down before Him. This is an exact demonstration of gentleness and humility of our dear Master and Lord and Savior of the world Jesus.
As followers of Christ, such virtues must be evident in our daily lives. We must be constantly reminded that our Lord, although He is the power that holds the entire universe, did not claim any position of power while He was on earth . He remained a gentle, meek and loving servant until His death on the cross.
Christ, our Lord and King will remain the most humble, most gentle, and most loving king who walked this earth. He will remain above everyone else and will remain uncomparable throughout all the generations and throughout all the ages. Let Him rule in our hearts continually.
