God Don't Make Junk!

Updated on December 31, 2012

A WORKING FOUNDATION FOR THIS DISCUSSION

Considering the fact that this title discusses God, I guess it would be helpful if you believe in God before reading my theory. I guess that leaves you atheists out; you can all go do something else while I chat about theology for awhile….or….you can read it for the entertainment value.

My intention is not to convince anyone of the existence of God! That is a fool’s errand at best and daddy didn’t raise no fool. No, my goal is to point out some things about the belief in God that should be obvious, but evidently are not.

Shall we begin?

The temple of God
The temple of God | Source

DESCRIBE GOD FOR ME PLEASE

What is your concept of God? How would you describe the God of your understanding? Would you say God is all-powerful? Would you say God is all-loving and all-knowing? Would you say that God is a perfect being incapable of making a mistake?

I’ve been around religion for quite a few years, and I have rubbed shoulders with self-professed believers for the same amount of time, so I have a fairly good idea of the various descriptions of God. Even Merriam-Webster Dictionary has a pretty good grasp on the God topic:

“the Being perfect in power, wisdom, and goodness who is worshipped as creator and ruler of the universe.”

So there you have it, a perfect Being, and since God is considered perfect, we can rightfully assume that he does not make mistakes, correct? So if the God of your understanding and belief does not make mistakes, then we can take it a step further and say….

God don’t make junk!

THEREFORE….

If God don’t make junk, then why are there so many people on this planet who feel that they are junk? Why are there so many people who hate themselves, or who feel inferior, or who feel cheated because they do not have attributes that others have?

You see, I have a problem with inconsistency. Always have and always will! If someone states that they believe in a perfect Being, the Creator of the Universe, then they cannot possibly believe that the Perfect One created anyone who was less than a wondrous creation.

And yet they do!

And so I say to you once again,

God don’t make junk!

TO THE ABUSED, I SAY TO YOU

God don’t make junk! For those of you who have suffered rape and abuse, and feel that it is somehow your fault, and further feel that there is something imperfect about you….God don’t make junk!

Horrible things happen to good people. There is no logic involved when talking about the randomness of life. Some luck out and never have to face horror; others seem to face ten times their share of horror, and for those it begins to seem as though they somehow deserve it. Listen carefully to me: no one deserves rape or abuse! We are not born under a bad moon and marked for life as deserving of rape or abuse. The acts perpetrated upon you by cruel people do not mean that you are less than others, and it does not mean that you deserved those cruel acts.

A loving God does not randomly select certain people as victims because they are inferior human beings, nor does a loving God create inferior human beings. We are told that we are created in God’s image and likeness, so how can we possibly be less than wonderful just the way we are?

TO THOSE SUFFERING FROM PSYCHOLOGICAL PROBLEMS, I SAY TO YOU

God don’t make junk! Yes, I’m talking to those who are bi-polar and I’m talking to the soldiers with PTSD. I’m talking to those kids with ADHD and I’m talking to anyone else with a syndrome or psychological condition.

Being afflicted does not make you less important than other people. Shame on anyone who believes that!

If God loves us all equally as his children, then who are we to love ourselves any less? You either believe in the goodness and wisdom of God or you don’t, and if you do then you have to believe that he considers you perfect the way you are. This is simple logic and yet so many do not see it, mainly because they have been beaten down by societal attitudes and reactions, and they have come to believe that the naysayers are correct. Well, they are not!

God don’t make junk!

TO THE OVERWEIGHT AND THOSE STRUGGLING WITH THEIR LOOKS, I SAY TO YOU

God don’t make junk! I don’t care if you weigh 400 pounds or you weigh 90 pounds but believe you look fat….God don’t make junk, and you are beautiful if you see yourself as God sees you.

I don’t care if you have warts or other imperfections. I don’t care if you have small breasts or protruding ears. If you believe you are beautiful, as your God believes, then you are beautiful.

I don’t care if you have one arm or you are missing fingers, and I certainly don’t care if you are heterosexual, homosexual, or transsexual….God don’t make junk!

TO THE HOMELESS AND THE POOR, I SAY TO YOU

God don’t make junk! There but for the grace of God go I, and I mean that with all sincerity. This writer is one drink away from being a wino on the streets. There are millions who are one paycheck from being homeless. Does that make you, the homeless or the drug addict, junk, but the rest of us not junk?

The longer you are homeless, or the longer you are an addict, the stinkin’ thinkin’ takes over more and more of your psyche, until the day comes when you feel inferior to the rest of normal society, and then you are one step away from believing you deserve to be homeless or an addict.

You are wrong! God don’t make junk!

Your cries are heard

HEAR MY MESSAGE!

I was born with a gift. I have not always seen it as a gift, but today I see empathy as a precious gift that I treasure. I figuratively bleed when others bleed, and I feel sorrow when others cry. Yes, it can be painful, but I cherish the ability to experience the feelings, good and bad, that my fellow humans feel.

So when I see a person who feels less than others, it bothers me greatly. I want to grab hold of them and look them in the eyes and tell them that they are a miracle, that they are unique, and that they are a beautiful manifestation of a loving God.

I want you all to hear that message, and internalize it, and begin to believe it. I know for a fact that some of you who are reading this have been abused, raped, spit on or demoralized. I know some of you feel as though you will never be normal, you will never be equal, and you will never be capable of rising above the quagmire in which you are encased.

Do not judge yourselves by the standards of others. Do not judge yourselves by societal benchmarks or by the words and opinions of those around you.

Instead, judge yourselves by the only four words that have any value…..

God don’t make junk!

Do not tell me you are not beautiful and do not tell me you are not worthy!

Instead, tell me the only four words that describe your beauty and worthiness….

God don’t make junk!

Most interesting..We do live in an imperfect world...Life is a series of problems, issues and challenges punctuated by very happy moments and accomplishments. Why do some have an easy time and others have so many problems. I have never thought what it would be like to be very fat, no food to eat, not bright, challenged in some way. But we do take all of what we are for granted. Anyway..a most interesting look at humanity and what our life is really all about.

Love it Billybuc but can I ask of you a favor? Will you write another Hub and elaborate on your theory (assuming you have a theory) of why there are those that commit these heinous crimes against others? This will be just a theory/opinion on the why and how as we all know, for there is no concrete evidence that we can show unless we are God... even then science may refute it. If you have already written in this regard please point me in the right direction.

I do agree, God does not make junk!

Magdelene, you are asking a lot. Of course I have theories, but I have no confidence that they are right. I am as horrified as everyone else is over these events.....let me think about it and maybe I can do that for you. :) Thank you for asking me to do that and Happy New Year to you.

Many years ago someone told me to think of God's "personality"...liken it to that of your father. If, like you and me, we are fortunate to have a wonderful and loving father, we can imagine what a wonderful and loving God is like. God created us in His image...no junk there! I won't bog this comment down with religious theory, but, agree with you 100%, God does not make junk and He loves all of His creations!

Voted up, useful, awesome, and interesting.

"God Don't Make Junk." I love that! This is exactly how all of us should feel about ourselves because it's true. How can we be anything but beautiful when we are made in God's image? Thanks Bill. I hope every person on the internet reads this and passes it on as I am doing.

Hear, hear Bill! As one who has suffered some of the situations you cite in this hub, I have never thought I deserved it, nor have I thought less of myself. In fact I'm pretty proud of the strength I maintain despite some of the ugliness I've experienced. God and my parents gave me strength and the gumption to overcome. I have my faults and I am endeavoring to make 2013 a new beginning for me. But in all sincerity, and at the risk of sounding vain, I think I'm pretty awesome and I will make it a goal to become even more so!

God Bless You and Happy New Year to you and Bev my friend!

A resounding Amen, Billybuc. The Bible tells us that God made man in his image. He loves us because He made us. As he knit us together in our mother's womb, he did it with reverence, joy, care, and love. You are right BB, God don't make junk.

God does not promise life on earth with no pain and suffering. Christ Himself suffered. But He is with us every moment, extending His hand to walk us through every situation. God bless you Billybuc, you are proof positive God don't make junk. Happy New Year.

Bill, what a powerful message. Many of the problems in our world are a result of a lack of encouragement and praise. Yes, we are all different and have different features and gifts but you are right...none of us is junk. When a child is born into the world, they are perfect miracles. Sadly, many of them live a lifetime of being ripped apart by judgment of others. I can only imagine what a difference it would make in our world if every child was treated with respect and given encouragement. Wow! We have a lot of work to do but I am happy to share the journey with you.

Your words are so true and not debatable. But for so many who have no place in their souls for these words, they may believe they are the exception. It is an unfortunate world we live in, that children grow up with damaged egos and false beliefs and turn into adults who remain scarred by their flawed thinking. But if your words turn one person into a believer, than you have changed the world. Your own experiences and the person you are today, are an inspiration to this hub. Wishing you a wonderful and happy New Year.

A much needed message, especially at this time of year when people, including me, start evaluating the last twelve months of their lives and calculating the successes and failures. When we see that our failures have outnumbered our successes we, including me, sometimes have a tendency to think less of ourselves. But those of us who believe in God know exactly what you are saying - God Don't Make Junk! Everything that happens in life happens for a reason, perhaps to be a learning and strengthening experience either for the "victim" or others who are watching to see what we do. You are right, William, God don't make junk. We are all beautiful in his eyes and it's time we see it, too. Thank you for this wonderful message of truth.

Bill, I heard your message.. it was as if you were speaking directly to me. Thank you for caring.. thank you for taking the time to write this. It brought tears to my eyes. Last night I prayed for the first time in a while... that connection is what I have been missing. I so want to get it back. Once again, you remind me how important I am in God's eyes and really that is all that matters. All of this other stuff is nothing in the scheme of things.. all the things that have happened, all the things people have said and done. None of it makes one bit of difference in the long run. I do believe in God but I don't believe because others told me to believe, I believe because he came to me and touched me personally. Thank you once again for this very important reminder. I really do miss God. It's hard to get that connection back again. I know it can't happen until I reach out in faith and move past the fear and start taking the right actions regarding negative situations in my life. The new year has got me thinking.. it's got me thinking how tired I am. You know the tired I'm talking about. Wonderful, wonderful hub, Bill. Thank you for sharing :)

Some day, if you are interested, I'll tell you what my sponsor told me about God. It was a turning point for me because I knew the alternative was a slow, painful spiritual death, followed by a slow, painful physical death. LOL

Obviously that did not happen, but I think about his words often when I am having times like you are describing.

I would love to meet you one day, Jamie. I think we would have a wonderfully productive conversation and both be the better because of it.

Billy, this message is so cool, so simple and yet so very powerful. We need to have it stamped on our foreheads! I used to think that being empathetic was somewhat of a curse, but I have learned that feeling deeply what others feel is indeed a blessing. It helps me to see 'where they're coming from'. I don't often cry, but when I see abuse and hurt, I cry so hard inside it is painful. I totally identify with this wonderfully important article. Voted Up Across the Board. Bravo, my friend!

I knew a priest a long time ago when I was about 14 I began going to his chapel. His name was Fr. Keane. He was jolly and very overweight. He was kind to all. His charity coverth a multitude (of sins.)

We're all imperfect of course, but yes God don't make junk. That's the first time I heard that, from Fr. Keane.

He really was such a special man. I really admire him standing up to the changes in the Catholic Church where most priests were forced to stop saying the beautiful Latin Mass and go to the new and desecrated version, not just a language change, but a complete change from holy to secualar. No more priest facing altar to God but sitting facing the people.

Well, Fr. Keane was an amazing man. Yes he was. I don't think he understood bipolar but he sure was supportive.

It's people like that , who really make your faith, and sustain it, examples of such goodness you cannot nor will forget. Holy men, priests, people who impact on you such a beautiful message of what God really is.

I pray for those who never experienced that kind of example that kind of exemplary attitude or way of being.

He was so persecuted but he paved a way for those who wanted to stick to the Truth. And to the God who is never changing, who is the one who created us special and unique, and you are correct , God doesn't make junk.!

This is a great article and just such a good read for tonight.

God will surely bless you for your kind efforts in trying to make this world a better place- well you didn't just try, you obviously have.

Thank you fo reaching out to the abused, bipolar, etc.

I have bipolar and was treated bad by my family for years.

They have been mean and told me I should join my father who's gone. At least one of them did, one who really needs to learn integrity.

I say one should never say those kinds of things.

It really is telling, who is good and who's not or just spiritually sick.

Thanks again. I know I'm special but I do suffer a lot because I have strong emotions. And I certainly do feel. I express my heart openly and glad to see you doing so too. It means a lot to view your video and see what a beautiful person you (are.) Thats why I put you in the hub I wrote about

      https://hubpages.com/relationships/Hottest-Men-On-...

Billy, you continues to inspire and motivate, I'm sure we can all think of times in our lives when those words would have made all the difference. It is so easy to demoralise and destroy people with just a few well chosen words, but you have provided the antidote " God Don't make Junk" it is not about beauty, not about intelligence, not about wealth or poverty. The rich super model who is worshipped by million, takes her own life, the wealthy folks in the mansion on the hill are chronically depressed. When we can love ourselves warts and all we'll know we were all created equally with our own uniqueness. Another thought provoking article.

Awesome, true, needed--how many other words would describe all that you have shared. So many people go through life feeling "less than", usually because someone they loved and respected told them they were no good. So sad. I feel so blessed that I had a mother who always taught us that we could do and be anything we wanted if we are willing to strive for it. She also told us we were beautiful (or handsome to my brothers) and of course that was an exaggeration but such a nice thing to hear when you are going through the ugly stages of adolescence. Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful thoughts and feelings !

Such a beautiful message; "God don't make junk." It brought tears to my eyes but I needed to hear that today. Thank you, Bill! Thank you Sue for sharing this encouraging and beautiful hub, so I got to read it.

Bill. I wish you and your loved ones a blessed, healthy, happy and prosperous 2013.

Great message Bill. We are all created equally and when it comes down to it we are all searching for our way through this life. It's a shame that people are made to feel that they are inferior to others. Hopefully everyone takes your message to heart and can learn to love themselves. Happy New Year.

What a wonderful message! I'm so glad I took the time out to check in on the Hubs site today. As a caseworker, I can't talk about religion but I try to encourage my clients. Many of them do believe that their being abused or suffering from various psychological and physcial diseases is a result of them being bad or not as good as others. Your message is uplifiting to me and I hope to be able to share it with many others. Thank you and I hope you have a wonderful year as you continue to encourage others!

Blondey, you are so very right! Bipolar......it is so unfair when we single out people because they are not like us. Oftentimes the reaction is because of fear, or ignorance, or maybe that person just has a darkness in their soul and they never will be able to separate the condition from the person.

Anyway, I am sorry you have been treated differently, and if this hub helped in any way then I am happy.

Your message, God loves us all equally, red, yellow, black, brown and white is needed throughout the world. People who feel superior has a bit of junk in their psyche. There is a reason why people have a mental disability. The brain is an organ and can get sick just like any other part of the body. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we all could appreciate the differences in one another and work together to make a judgemental-free society? Thank you Bill, wonderful hub..

Billybuc, you’ve done a good analysis of an age-old problem. Gosh, I could write a hub-long comment, but I promise I won’t. I think people deem themselves unworthy because their religions teach that they are unworthy. Even the non-religious still suffer “unworthy pangs” taught by the religious. They are taught that God is an external creator who is perfect and that mankind because of original sin can never reach perfection. But most of them have never read 1 Samuel 10, 11, where their God admits that he made a mistake. JEHOVAH, the God of the Old Testament, who is recognized as God in the New Testament church, although he is never mentioned by name, says he MADE A MISTAKE:

10 Then the word of the Lord came to Samuel: 11 “I regret that I have made Saul king, because he has turned away from me and has not carried out my instructions.” (NIV)

OK, my question is why should you consider yourself unworthy of God’s perfection if your God himself admits that he is not perfect? Maybe you have the wrong God or you are misinterpreting God’s meaning. Cogitate upon it. Raise yourself up from the pity-pot and say to yourself, “I am one of God’s children and I am worthy!” How can God make junk when we are made from God’s essence! If you believe that God made you junk, then you have to believe that God is junk! Enough of the pep talk; words are easy.

It is really hard to overcome years of brow beating and bullying from parents, family, and even well-meaning friends. It takes years to overcome that type of conditioning. I hope that your hub hits the people who need it right square in the heart. Voted you up ++.

Miz B, hello and Happy New Year!

The Old Testament is alive and well in the world today...hell and brimfire and guilt by the truckload, and we are all unworthy of any joy in life. B.S. of course, but many people buy into the nonsense....then, as you said, they get it piled on them by family and friends, and pretty soon those rose-colored glasses can't see anything but drab brown.

Thank you as always and I hope you are enjoying the holiday!

I agree that God does not make junk , yes , but it is Christs redeeming love through the cross that changes everything . Darkness binds people up in negativity , it is not their fault, they have lost their way due to the lies of darkness spoken over them . I urge anyone who feels terrible about themselves to confide in a close Christian friend who will share your grief anf speak Gods truth over you , that you are fearfully and wonderfully made :) . You are the apple of His eye and life is good.

It is a bit strange that I came across this on this particular evening I had just read a few hours ago a hub by someone who had an abundance of self doubt for a number of reasons. Sometimes people feel they are junk because they have heard it for so long. That was the case with this person. The particular individual had been told they were worthless by someone who should have been the cheerleader, the one to encourage.

Thank you for sharing this, Bill....God don't make junk...that is for certain.

Sending you Angels and hugs and all...:) ps

PS, that sort of thing happens all too often. How hard it must be to hear that from someone you care about and who is supposed to be a support. I will never understand the cruelty in some people.

I appreciate you so much my friend. I hope you are having a wonderful weekend. Blessings to you always, and I'm holding those angels close to my heart.
