God's Amazing Grace To A Demon-possessed Man

Updated on January 8, 2013

God’s Amazing Grace to a Demon-possessed Man

As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed begged to go with him. Jesus did not let him, but said, “Go home to your family and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you. So the man went away and began to tell in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him. And all the people were amazed.

Mark 5:18-20

He was possessed by a legion of spirits. He grew so strong that no one can tame him. He lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him. No one was strong enough to subdue him. Night and day he was among the tombs and in the hills, he would cry out and cut himself with stones.

He was already in the palm of Hell, amidst darkness, no hope and no future at all. His personality was totally damaged by the demons living in him. All people around him fear him. It was just a matter of days and the demons possessing him would kill him. He was in a totally hopeless condition.

But one day Christ came to their town and saw him and laid His mercy on him and cast out the legion of spirits from him. He was brought back to his right mind. From that great abominable situation, he was resurrected to newness of life. He was given a new hope, a new beginning. After his amazing deliverance, he became a mighty witness of God’s grace and mercy. This is the amazing story of a demon-possessed man from the region of Gerasenes.

The story of a demon-possessed man from Gerasenes is a great story of God’s marvelous work of grace and mercy to a man who is already almost at the jaw of hell. It is a marvelous story of God’s deliverance. Only by God’s grace and mercy, he was delivered. Christ just came at the right time to deliver him. This just demonstrates That no situation in life is beyond God's power and grace.

We all have our own story of God’s marvelous work of grace in our life. To be chosen among the recipient of God’s mercy and grace is such a wonderful thing to magnify in our life, for not all people are chosen by God to receive His work of mercy and grace. To be among God’s dear elect is such a great blessing to behold in life. The demon-possessed man of Gerasene is a very special man, because he is a recipient of God’s mercy and grace. Inspite of the many failures and frustrations we have already experienced in this world, there is always great reason for us to rejoice, that we are among God’s dear elect, recipient of His mercy and grace.
