God's Sovereignty Over Life And Death

God's Sovereignty Over Life And Death

"Not even a sparrow, worth only half a penny, can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs on you head are all numbered. So don't be afraid, you are more valuable to Him than a whole flock of sparrows."

Matthew 10:29

The Father God is completely sovereign over all His entire creation. The death of a sparrow which worth only half a penny will never escape His knowledge. He has a complete knowledge of the death of both the godly and the wicked. God is completely sovereign over the death of a certain person. He is the One who allow a certain person to live or to die. He is the One who decide whether to cause a miracle to happen or not to happen. The life of a certain person is completely rested in His hands. No one could really boast about that he or she is young and has so much years ahead of him/her. No one could ever boast of his dreams and plans, for only the Lord God could make them happen or He may choose to frustrate these plans. He is the owner of our lives, and He is also the owner of tomorrow or the future. So no one could ever boast about tomorrow.

Just take for an instance, the circumstance that happened to the daughter of my cousin. She is very young , only twenty two years old, full of plans and full of dreams. She just graduated from college , bearing with her the plans of working abroad to earn greater income. She has some plans to go to Singapore or to Japan to work and earn dollars.

She planned and dreamed as if she owns the future. The Word of God has no place in her heart. She dreamed great and big things for herself as if she owned her life. She has no room for God's puroses in her life. One day, death suddenly took her by surprise. One morning, she was found dead with her boyfriend inside a van. What a tragic death. The crime remain unresolved as of this time. Truly death comes like a thief in the night. Now all her dreams and plans were lost in just a sudden moment.

Another sudden death at a young age happened to a De La Salle University dean's lister Student. He is very young, not even reached the age of twenty and very talented. He must have some great future being a member of the honor roll of the top and the most prestigious university in the Philippines. He will be a great leader in the industry he has chosen for himself. But one day, death took him by surprise when the car he was driving suddenly met a tragic accident. Maybe he is also full of dreams and plans for his future, but the tragic accident killed away all his dreams.

Death is no respecter of any age, it comes to the very old, it also comes to the very young. That's why we can never boast about that we are young and has so much years ahead of us, even so we should not claim tomorrow or the future.

God is the ultimate sovereign over life and death. He is the owner of our one precious life. We only barrowed our lives from Him. We must be constantly reminded that this one life we have must serve His purposes for our lives. It must be used for His ultimate glory. Our life is never meant to be used up for our selfish desires and ambitions. Let us also be constantly reminded that our life is completely dependent upon the grace and mercy of God. It is by His great mercy our lives are preserved so we are delivered from destruction.
