Growing in the Word

For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe. 1 Thessalonians 2:13

I remember years ago the cable guy came over after we had moved and I was a fairly new Christian. I had a sticker on my back door at that time that said “Jesus is the Answer”. The man asked me, “What is the question”? And I froze, and then answered. “I don’t know that is where it is at”. It didn’t make any sense plus I sounded like some sort weirdo using some 70’s slang. Once the cable was hooked up I plugged in the television and put it on this Christian show. He had to hook up some other thing so he was there for awhile listening. He said his grandma watched all those shows. Again, I didn’t have anything to say. I was just thankful that he was listening to some bible stuff and hearing the gospel.

Another time I had some Jehovah’s Witnesses in for tea. And our calm discussion got into a little bit of a heated debate. I was quoting scriptures left and right, but because I was a fairly new Christian I didn’t really know what the word deity meant. I knew what trinity meant but somehow not deity. Now of course I know now that it means that Jesus is God. But in a snarky voice with attitude I said to them, “Oh yeah, and you guys believe in the Deity”, then they were all quiet and they said “no, you guys believe in that”. I looked at them all confused and they looked back at me even more confused, I’m not sure what I said after, maybe I said. Oh, whatever. It was pretty funny, when I told this older Christian couple I knew they thought it was hilarious. I thank God now for the knowing more now and for being able to share my faith in a better way. I really studied the bible after that. Eventually, they stopped coming over because they realized that either side was budging or converting. Praise the Lord for growing in His word!
