The Edinburgh Vaults are said to be one of the most haunted places in the UK. Many visitors who head down to the lower levels are greeted by

A few months back me and my wife visited friends who live in edinburgh (UK) and spent a long weekend there. What a beautiful place it is full of bars and restaurants wonderful scenery and of course steeped in history.

Friends back in the UK had mentioned about the so called haunted vaults and that this was a must, we had read about the history of the vaults and the supposed phenomenon and paranormal activity so decided to book tickets for a evening 7.45pm tour.

some of the reported activity is of a dark figure seen in the tunnels or several people have reported what they described as a small boy holding their hand.

The History of the vaults and the many deaths that occurred in this underground civilisation has obviously left a atmosphere in these dark underground like tunnels and caverns, some people living in these conditions must have never seen daylight especially with the death rate and so many younger children born and dying here.

Anyway after meeting with our guide and other folk on the tour basically meeting on the street we were taken down a couple of winding roads and down a back street, obviously trying to get us all into a spooky atmosphere telling us about the history and if you feel a brushing or a holding of the hand and so on which was a bit suggestive (well i thought it was). The enterance to the vaults were very strange as we entered through what was basically well it looked like some ones front door, Down a couple of stone steps and boompf,it was like standing in a room cut out of stone of some sort or cave like, I am not easily led into believing anything paranormal but must admit this felt uneasy to say the least,

We were led along a corridor which was lit by candles and low lites as was all the way through. There was about 12 people and the guide in front of me and my wife,we and 2 others were near the back, After turning a corner there was a tunnel that was pitch black, The guide said that we could not go down this tunnel as it was not part of the tour, something to do with the american buyers who were trying to maximise the cashin of the tours, Anyway after turning around this corner i swear to god i saw a black figure stood on the wall, bearing in mind lit by candlelight could be casting someones shadow, with me my wife and another couple at the back and about 12 in front the tour guide stopped and started telling a story about a spirit boy,This all happened in seconds But the shadow on the wall down the tunnel started walking up the tunnel wall then across to the other side of the tunnel, i then said to my wife to which she said to me at the same time did you see that at which point the couple behind us both replied o my god did you see that, This was quite exciting and nervy but we felt safe knowing that at least 4 of us had seen this , The rest of the tour to be honest was interesting for learning of the history but was a short tour and lacking of experiences.

I would recommend anyone visiting edinburgh to experience the vaults if only to learn about the history and the unbelievable conditions these people lived in and of course the chance of a encounter with the other side which i, my wife and the other couple will always remember. What started out of what we thought a gimiky tour ended left a lasting paranormal impression.
