Do You Believe Your Mind Can Heal Your Body Of Any Disease?
Copyright 2001 VVeasey Publishing
What I'm about to say about healing is not to be taken as medical advice or substituted for the advice of your physician or health care professional. Always seek sound medical advice for any health problems. My purpose is just to give you something to think about, something to entertain your thoughts for a while! Now that that's all cleared up let's get to it!
Heal: means to make sound or whole. Restore to health. To cause an undesirable condition to be overcome. (Webster's Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary)
It's habitual for most of us when we see a sick friend or relative, to focus on how bad their current condition is rather than focusing on seeing their condition improving! But those of us who believe that we can affect others with our thoughts would envision them as improving in health until they're completely well again.
If you're too focused on the physical reality of the disease and the current condition of the person, you may unknowingly reinforce that person's condition. You see them getting worst instead of better, especially if they have cancer or some other disease that frightens you. You may even envision them dying.
Not that you can cause them to die. It’s just that your thoughts aren’t supporting their recovery. You don’t have to pretend they aren’t sick. Just be aware that we can all be affected by one another verbally and telepathically, especially by those we’re close to without necessarily being aware of it!
But if you believe that God can cure any disease whether it's cancer or some other disease and that you’re made in the image and likeness of God as it says in Genesis 1:26, "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness." Shouldn't you believe that you can cure yourself and others of any disease as well? Some of you may be thinking, I tried to heal someone or myself, but it didn’t work.
That may be because you don't view the sick person the way God or Jesus views them. Do you think that Jesus or God could heal a sick person if they viewed them the way you view them?
Another reason you may find it hard to heal yourself is because, you never think your mental state has anything to do with your physical illness. Another factor is the resistance your mind and the minds of those you're tying heal put up against the healing, because of yours and their belief in the power of disease over your power to heal them or their power to heal themselves.
When Jesus looked at sick people he saw them as well. The image of health in Jesus' mind produced the image of health in the sick person's mind causing the brain/endocrine system, to trigger the biochemical reactions that restored their bodies to back to health. But, they had to believe that they could be healed before Jesus could heal them. Jesus never says that he heals them but that their faith or belief had made them whole. In other worlds their mental state healed them.
Here are two examples of Jesus' healings that illustrate this point:
“For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole. 9:22 but Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour”.Matt 9:21
“And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord. 9:29 Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you. 9:30 And their eyes were opened; and Jesus straightly charged them, saying, See that no man know it”.Matt 9:28 (King James Version)
So you see you have to have faith or believe that you can be healed to be healed according to the text.
The sick woman had an image of herself as being healed if she could just touch Jesus' garment. The blind men had an image of themselves as being able to be healed by Jesus, but, they must have had some doubts about it because Jesus made a point of asking them if they believed he could heal them, making sure they believed he could heal them, before he healed them; confirming that their belief or faith was necessary before they could be healed.
I'm not saying that the only way Jesus could heal was if the sick person believed he could heal them. But here’s further proof that faith or belief was important to Jesus ability to heal,
“And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, a prophet is not without honor, save in his own country, and in his own house. 13:58 And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief”.Matt 13:57-58
So you see even Jesus couldn't do many mighty healing works without the peoples' belief in his ability to heal.
Also, in Mark 11:23 Jesus said: “For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith”.
He's saying if you really believe you can do things that seem impossible including curing disease. The heart is a symbol of the emotional, imaginative part of the mind. This is where you're affected most by what you believe.
It requires a lot of effort and practice to consistently focus your mind on seeing sick people as getting better or to believe that they can get better, especially if they have a disease that you've been taught to believe is fatal, like cancer. Your habitual mode of thought will always be stronger than any new mode of thought you’re attempting to try out, until you've gain enough experience in the new mode of thought to combat this process. But it can be done.
Your habitual mode of thought has years of experience behind it and can't be change in one or two days, weeks or months.
So your chances of being successful when you're just beginning to try to learn how to heal with the mind will be pretty low. And the time it takes for you to heal will be proportionate to the amount of resistance you have in the form of unconscious thoughts and beliefs, impeding your efforts to heal.
The more minds you have envisioning the sick person as getting better, the more you'll increase the chances of that person getting better even faster.
You're attempting to focus the vast power of the mind by faith to bring about healing at will. Like focusing the vast power of the sun through a magnifying glass on a piece of paper until it bursts into flames!
Prayer is another name for what you're trying to do.
When you pray you're focusing the magnifying glass (the mind) on the piece of paper (the sick person) until the power of the sun (God) causes the paper to burst into flames (causes their sickness to disappear!)
You can pay lip service to the idea that you can be healed of disease because Jesus said what you believe in your heart and don't doubt will come to pass. But if the name of a disease frightens you when you’re told you have it or might get it, will show you what you really believe about what Jesus said about your ability to heal yourself or others!
The next time you find yourself around sick friends or relatives, notice if you're focusing on how sick they are or if you're focusing on seeing them getting better and better until they're completely well again! Healing thoughts produce healing effects and disease thoughts produce disease effects on yourself and those you focus your mind on whether you're aware of it or not. What kind of impressions are you permitting your thoughts to leave on your body, your life, your mind or the lives of family, friends or others?
Instinctual Memory (commonly called the unconscious or subconscious) controls all the functions and sensations of your body. This is the part of the mind that keeps your body alive, your heart beating and your lungs breathing without you consciously having to do it, even when you're sleeping.
This is the mind that hypnotists work with causing those hypnotized to do all kinds of things they’re not capable of doing or wouldn't do in their normal waking state of consciousness.
Instinctual memory responds to any impressions made on it as real. It can’t tell the difference between an impression made on it by the senses when in contact with a sensory object or by an impression made on it by the imagination when in contact with a mental object.
If an impression is made on instinctual memory that says if you go out in cold weather without a hat you’ll catch a cold. If you go out in cold weather without a hat instinctual memory will produce the symptoms of a cold in your body whether you’re thinking about it or not. Proving to you that going out in cold weather without a hat causes you to catch a cold!
A disease impression produced on instinctual memory contains the instructions for creating the disease, when the circumstances are right according to the instructions. (Like going out in the cold without your hat on)
This programming of instinctual memory started when you were a child before you were aware that you were you. This was done to you by the adults in your life, who were similarly programmed when they were kids by the adults in their lives when they were kids and so on and so on. (You don’t have to be aware of this process for it to affect you)
To reiterate, instinctual memory controls all the functions, feelings, thoughts and sensations of your body and can produce any sensation or symptom of disease from memory.
To simplify it, any disease idea or emotion that disturbs your peace of mind causes the disease symptoms. Your disturbed mental state is the invisible source of the disease. A disturb mental state is a disease state. This disturbed mental state causes the body and its organs to function in a disturbed way, causing the endocrine system to secrete biochemicals that produce the disease symptoms in your body.
To eradicate the symptoms of disease you have to eradicate the process of creating disease. But doctors keep attacking the symptoms of disease instead of the process that’s causing the disease. They keep pulling up the weeds in your garden (cutting out tumors) while someone else keeps planting new weeds in your garden (diseased mental states). They keep pulling up the new weeds in your garden (cutting out new tumors) while someone else keeps planting new weeds in your garden and so on and so on!
They never know when a new weed will pop up, so they keep your garden (your body) under periodic observation (have you come in for check ups). If the weeds grow faster than they can pull them up (cut out the tumors) they spread all over your garden (your whole body). Eventually they spread so much that there’s no room for your vegetables to grow (for your health to return). Your vegetables die and your garden is dead (your immune system shuts down and you die!).
This is how surgeons tend to treat cancerous tumors. They keep cutting out tumors and other cancerous tissues, administering chemo therapy and radiation, weakening your health to the point where it’s too dangerous to continue operating on you and never attack the process that’s producing the tumors.
The time it takes you to heal disease with the mind or faith depends on how long it takes you to reprogram your mind to stop producing disease and to start producing health. This takes time! It takes a lot of honest evaluating of your unconscious fears, thoughts and feelings about disease and your ability to heal disease.
The next time you hear the word cancer, notice your reaction to the sound of the word! What do you feel? Is it like someone hit you in the pit of your stomach? Is it fear, joy, depression? What do you see or imagine when you hear that word? Is it images of people looking pale and sickly, wasting away until they look like walking skeletons? Are you terrified? Do you see the same thing happening to you?
If you imagine or feel any of those things that's the beginning of the psychosomatic disease process that produces the symptoms of disease. As a matter of fact those feelings and sensations are the potential disease process in action. This is the time to start desensitizing yourself to the automatic reactions you feel when you hear the word cancer or any disease word for that matter.
Train yourself to react in the opposite way you usually react to hearing the word cancer, because the way you usually react probably supports the unconscious formation of memory programs that can support the development of cancer. So train yourself to react in a way that not only doesn't support cancer but supports health, through your belief in the power of faith to heal yourself or prevent you from getting any disease in the first place.
Be Realistic About Healing With The Mind
Some people don’t have a realistic idea about how long it takes for spiritual or faith healing to work. They think that if they try it one or two times and their disease symptoms don’t disappear instantly that it didn’t work.
If you wanted to learn how to play the guitar and took ten lessons with a professional guitarist do you think that you’d be able to play like a professional after ten lessons? What about after a 50 lessons? If you couldn’t play like a professional guitarist after 10 or 50 lessons would you say that the lessons didn’t work?
Some of you may say this, but that's not realistic.
It’s the same thing when you’re learning to play your faith instrument (your conscious and unconscious minds ). It may take a lot of time and effort to play like a professional (alleviate our symptoms). The time spent with an instructor just puts you on the right track!
And just to show that there is some scientific reality to what I'm saying.
Let me draw your attention to double blind placebo trials.
Every drug must go through these trials and show effectiveness against a placebo, something that looks like a drug but has no drug effects, before the FDA will approve it for sale or use in the public.
That's because a certain amount of people taking the placebo experience improvements in their symptoms because they believe they're taking an actual real drug, and their symptoms are alleviated as if they were taking the real thing.
So contemplate what I said, try it out, see if it fits, if it doesn't, you haven't lost anything and may even have gained something in the process or at least...something to think about.
