Inspirational, Uplifting and Encouraging Bible Verses: "End of the World" Prophecy: Revelation 21: 2-4

Updated on December 8, 2013

I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” Revelation 21: 2-4 NIV

So according to scripture, God will at some point hit the reset button. In Genesis Ch 3, His original creation was compromised. Many things changed, one being that death became a reality. Along with it: disease, hatred, war, pollution, requirement for shelter, natural disasters, crime … etc. Compromised might seem too light a term.

Above we have a prophetical set of verses, where God inhabits earth. God who? The person of Jesus Christ, His physical manifestation coming to the planet for round two.

When will it happen? Scripture tells us no one knows the exact day or hour, but it does speak of what conditions will exist just prior. Taking a look at history, along with what has been and is shaping up in the Middle East, it could be soon. Soon because one event coincident with His return will be a war where Israel is attacked and under threat of complete destruction. We see the tension continue to build in and around Israel, the threat of war escalating. It seems only a matter of time until conflicts in that region will finally erupt. It sometimes appears to be teed up.

Looking around elsewhere, we see other signs. Man, in his attempt to right things on his own, imposing his own philosophy of what’s right. The United Nations seemingly moving toward a one world government with a single currency. Our own indebtedness weakening what was once a dominant standard, with a U.S. government looking more and more like a European template.

Things could turn around and hold together for a time, I hope they do. A revival of sorts. With all the energy being discovered and extracted on private land in the U.S., that alone could provide a new source of wealth and independence, perhaps enough to overcome the economic malaise and deficit we have incurred.

Today’s piece of scripture would seem fictional to many, and I understand why. It’s not natural for one to believe that a book would be inspired and thus indirectly authored by God. Even amongst Christians, the timeline for such events are debated. So either way, no one can know for sure.

Still, it at the very least provides an opportunity for observation and thought. Maybe some prayer. Sometimes I ride in my car, listening to the news or talk radio. The state of our nation and world can at times be such that I would rather flip the station and listen to KLOVE; or, my favorite secular stuff: 38 Special, Bee Gees, Skynyrd or BTO. I like to watch Happy Days reruns. Reminds me of a better time.

Good times ahead. May have to weather a storm first, but good times ahead.
