How Do You Forget God?
Maybe it's the time of year, I'm not sure, but right around this time each year I start to notice just how often people seem to put God aside. One would think that this time of year, God would be in our hearts and on our mind MORE than any other time of year.
I watched the CMA Awards a couple of weeks ago and was not surprised to hear so many winning artists thank the Lord for the blessings in their lives. I watched the American Music Awards this past Sunday night and wasn't surprised at how many artists didn't thank the Lord. Maybe I'm wrong, but to me it just seems that within the two different genres of music are two different breeds of people. I don't know why that is, it's just how it comes across to me. I'm not saying that every country singer thanked God or that every pop singer didn't. It was just kind of weird to watch.
During the American Music Awards it dawned on me how quickly one seems to forget God. Don't these artists realize that they would not be on that stage holding an award if it were not for God?
Now, tomorrow is Thanksgiving. A day for thanks. Thank the Pilgrims if you want, but how about thanking God first. So far I've not heard too many thanking God except to use expressions such as "Thank God they are having Big Sales on Friday!". Or "I'll thank God when I get all my shopping done." It's just sad to me.
Let us not forget Christmas. I don't want to hear "Happy Holidays". I find it offensive. And for good reason. Do I do the tree thing and the shopping thing? Yes I do. I enjoy all the materialistic parts of Christmas. However, first and foremost, I see Christmas for what it is: Christ's Birthday. So Happy Holidays? No. I'll take Happy Birthday, but not Happy Holidays. If you find me saying Merry Christmas to you offensive, too bad. I say it for a reason. If you don't celebrate Christmas because you don't believe in my God, that's fine. To each his own. But don't try to begrudge me celebrating the birth of my Lord. If you don't believe in Christ then personally I have to wonder why you celebrate the day?
There are many times I forget to say my prayers and thank the Lord for all the blessings in my life, however I don't need an event or holiday to remind me. But for those of you who do, I pray that this Thanksgiving and Christmas season, you will take the time to do so.
I hope everyone has a most blessed Thanksgiving and Christmas season. May God Bless each and every one of you in both all you want, do and need.
