How to Give Away Fear
What the Word Says
I was told in a psychology class that the only fear that we are born with is the fear of falling from a high area. When I look at almost everyone around me, I see many more fears lurking than just that. The amount of fears that the world holds onto can be paralyzing, keeping humans from reaching their full potential. According to God's word, "perfect love casts out all fear." In the New Living Translation, it reads, "Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love" (1 John 4:18). This statement carries a strong meaning alongside of it.
This scripture is matter of fact. It tells us that the reason for fear is the lack of understanding of how much God really loves us. When I was younger, I had a loving relationship with God but I was not aware of what His word said. I knew that God loved me and that I loved Him, and yet I was fearful of nearly everything. It's amazing how you can think that you know God completely and as you get further along in your walk with God, He brings new information to your attention that you were unaware of. But He never corrects for the sake of condemning, He only corrects for the sake of empowering.
When I talk to God, I can feel His tangible presence. You can ask God to make you more aware of His love and more aware of His presence in general. When you speak His word out loud over yourself, you can create an atmosphere in which you are constantly reminded of God's goodness and His presence. Words are incredibly important and they can change the entire direction of your life. By seeking God with your entire heart, you can do no wrong.
