Online Bible Verses about Christmas - Matthew Chapter 2: In Bethlehem
“When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written: “‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.” Matthew 2:4-6NIV
A bit of prophecy today, relevant during Christmas time.
Go right to Micah 5:2 to find prophetic (prior to the actual event) statement concerning where the Messiah would be born:
2 “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,
though you are small among the clans[b] of Judah,
out of you will come for me
one who will be ruler over Israel,
whose origins are from of old,
from ancient times.”
We see fulfillment of that prophecy in Matthew. Joseph and Mary would not have been in Bethlehem but for a census being ordered by Rome. Thus Joseph had to return to the town of his families origin, that being Bethlehem. They were where they had to be, in concert with Micah’s prediction, and Christ was born there.
