Is your God real or did you make him up?

Updated on October 26, 2010

Is your God real or did you make him up?

Do you follow the Word of God or just the part that fits your lifestyle or your sins? That way you can say I believe in God but I can still do what ever you want. If so your God does NOT exist you made him/her up. Idolatry is usually defined as worship of any idea, cult image or object as opposed to the worship of the One True God and his Word. It is considered a sin to Christians, but some so-called "Christians" break this Commandment daily. We see and hear this everyday "God is Love and he loves just as I am", "I don't have to change" We are born with a tendency to rebel against God, with hearts that are prone to idolatry, pride, sexual immorality, lust and other evils (Matthew 15:19). Though each of us has weaknesses toward particular sins, God still expects us to resist temptations in those areas and rely on his power for strength to keep sin from ruling us, and follow his word, not become complacent in our sins and build a God to accommodate them(Genesis 4:7, Romans 6:11-14). We are seeing this more and more look at "New Age which is a decentralized Western social and spiritual movement that seeks "Universal Truth" and the attainment of the highest individual human potential. It combines aspects of cosmology, astrology, esotericism, alternative medicine, music, collectivism, sustainability, and nature. New Age Spirituality is characterized by an individual approach to spiritual practices and philosophies, while rejecting religious doctrine and dogma. The New Age Movement includes elements of older spiritual and religious traditions ranging from atheism and monotheism through classical pantheism, naturalistic pantheism, and panentheism to polytheism combined with science and Gaia philosophy: particularly archaeoastronomy, astronomy, ecology, environmentalism, the Gaia hypothesis, psychology, and physics. New Age practices and philosophies sometimes draw inspiration from major world religions: Buddhism, Chinese folk religion, Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism, and Sufism; with particularly strong influences from East Asian religions, Gnosticism, Neopaganism, New Thought, Spiritualism, Theosophy, Universalism, and Western esotericism. Additional phrases which refer to the New Age Movement include All is One and Mind-Body-Spirit. Diverse individuals from around the world practice New Age Spirituality." This New Age Trend has become the single most popular trend simply because they believe in everything and nothing, Do whatever you want "God" won't mind. For the most part many Chritians feel the end is here. We as true followers of Christ need to let the world know of Idolatry and what it really means not just a Golden Calf, but also a false Idea of who God really is. So many people nowaways have made up their own versions of Jesus and God that suits them, and the sad part is they will die with that false God in their heart because it let them do whatever they wanted and they simply ignore the true Word of God so on Judegement shout they will shout "Lord, Lord!" and God will say "Depart from me I never knew you."(Matthew 7)

It's incredible that people try to hide behind "I don't believe it, so I'm not accountable". Amazing. Idolatry includes putting man on the throne ("I don't believe, so I'm god"). Also, all these New Age movements are worshiping the creation (including self) rather than the Creator. God's Word says something specifically about that as follows:

Romans 1:25 "For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen." Woe to them!

You my dear, are a great writer. This is not just some list of groupings that you came across and copied but you researched this. You are right. "He who has the Son has life and He that has not the Son of God has not life."

Well Jesus did start His own church Pam, which is basically His religion. This Hub is clearly needed. Good video too. New Agers don't seem to realize what is in their future if they don't change.

sirwanksalot Please don't confuse religion with faith. Many people use the word religion as a excuse not to believe. Religion is man made. I am a Christian I trust in God not man.

This is a complex thought, God loves us and forgives us, but only if you accept his will as your own, then we have to stop sinning and spread the above sentance to everyone els on the planet.

LOL i have herd more complicated instructioins for building a collapsable play pen. Let alone a religion.

Yet people still dont get it, or dont want to get it. LIfe is too short to live in sin and regret.

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! [Philippians 4:4]

I do not believe in gods, nor heaven and hell. However, I also do not believe in free will, or that one can do whatever they want. This Universe commands cooperation and there is only a selection...easy way or hard way.

I believe that there is a divinity and that it is supremely compliant because the only honorably mitigating force in this Universe is the example.

Furthermore, capital punishment is humanity's great complacency.

earnestshub It doesn't matter if you believe or not. My God is real. If a judge says I find you guilty and sentence you to lethal injection and you say I don't believe in lethal injection does that make it any less real. Here a hint: no

I totally accept that guy/girl... Victoria as shim is! :) Jesus is for sinners. :) If you are without sin, then Jesus did not come for you and is not for you. :)

If you are in the ranks of the rightious then you do not need Jesus. But no one is perfect and what is in Victoria's heart has no male/female origin.

      1John 4:8. God is Love.

If you do not believe in a god, there is no sin. Writing to tell all who don't believe what you do will be caste out of your exclusive club tells more about the human condition and your ignorance of it than you know.

You are on target and I agree 100%. Imaginary God is idolatry.

I would like to comment that worse sin is sin of unbelief.

Jesus is Lord! Thank you for excellent hub.
