Love is God

Updated on November 29, 2014

Some love is easy to find.

Most people find love somewhere in their hearts for family.

There was a man.

In the last three decades there was a man who was fortunate enough that he was able to travel the world. In all his travels he both retrospectively and actively looked for something in common, something that was everywhere. You see that man fully believed in his heart that there was a God. And in his studies, both formal and self taught he recognized that the most clear attributes of a God would be omnipotence and omnipresence. From that he determined that if he could find one thing that was indeed everywhere than that thing would be God. A rather simple notion.

In his travels he visited all kinds of places. He saw orphanages, and war zones and hospitals. He saw massive waste dumps with folks living in them. He saw great armies and cops walking a beat. He saw shopkeepers and massive board rooms. He visited churches and cemeteries. He found himself in the richest of countries and the poorest of countries and communities from one extreme to the next. He dined with billionaires and he dined with the homeless and downtrodden. He met horribly disfigured beggars and he met champion athletes. He chatted with soldiers and he chatted with prisoners. He engaged with the Pius and clergy and he engaged with the atheist and all in between. He knew folks from the country and folks from the largest cities.

And the only thing all of these had in common was love. Some kind and sometimes hard to get at with some folks but they all had someone or something that they passionately loved. Just imagine that there is a world filled with love. It is true.

Love is all you need.

What do you really need?

When you are "in love" are you content?

See results

Do not confuse what love is.

Love is not the absence of other matters: There are bad things in the world. People hate and commit heinous acts. They treat each other badly and they destroy civilizations and our planet. There are wars and police states and there are lands without freedoms to live peaceably. There are times and places where we victimize people for their race or color or gender. There are bad things in the world. The presence of these things do not mean the absence of love. Love exists even in the darkest corners of the world and in the darkest of times.

Also love is not the same as other good things. Sometimes good things just happen. Babies are born, wars are prevented. The ill get well. The lame walk again. People do good things for each other and these can happen all by themselves. While there will be love, love is not always the cause of good.

Perhaps the most famous of all quotes ever is this one:"Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."

Shall we just understand that love happens, it just does. It is everywhere regardless of our efforts otherwise.

Some love lasts and lasts.

So how is it that there is love everywhere?

Certainly a strange notion that there is love everywhere if we turn on a tv or go to the malls this time of year and fight in lines, When we see the tragedies of the world unfold before us we see nothing but the violence and hate and injury.

But it is the man's considered opinion that when we peel away the layers of hardened hearts there is at the core of every human being a love. Oh, man has the infinite capacity to stomp it out and to bury it so deep that it cannot be seen or felt. But it still resides in each person. It is there from birth and it can flower or be suppressed but it is there nonetheless. Sometimes it takes a crisis for it to be seen in the most hardened of hearts and sometimes it takes being near to death.

Why is it that love is God just because it is everywhere. Well it is good everywhere also. That part of us that is love can do miracles and move mountains and more importantly move the hearts and souls of man. It cannot be reasoned against. It cannot do evil. It is in fact omnipotent in our lives.

Man has the free will to reject love but love is there no matter what. Rejection does not obliterate love, it simply cannot. A man who completely denies love and stuffs his own down deep where it cannot be seen, has a great big problem,,, he can still be loved even when he cannot love himself.

Love is the greatest force for good that there is. When we see another in need, it is love that prompts us to reach out and help. When we hurt inside ourselves, it is love that gives us the hope that we need to carry on, and to believe that there is a better world.

Thank you much lone77star, this really adds greatly to this hub. Love is truly the touchstone toward ridding ourselves of the self.

A great effort here about love and the way you produced such a meaningful hub.

Very nice, Eric. And God is Love.

Most so-called "love," has a spot or more of self-concern in it. This is not True Love. Such True Love binds us together. Self-concern always divides us. This can be a good gauge to help us tell the difference between "mortal love" and True Love.

When we have absolutely no self-concern, the door to creation is open. This is when True Love shines. Some of my other observations of this spiritual state of bliss is that we take 100% responsibility for the acts of others, even those against us. Thus, it becomes impossible to be a victim when we are in True Love. This state also includes utter humility, for there is no "self" or "I" about which to be concerned. Our attention is outward toward others, instead of inward toward the pseudo-self. We become a larger being with True Love. With this state, we also have fearless confidence. There is no longer any self-concern, so fear would not fit. Confidence is perfect, so much so we call it "Faith."

This state of True Love sees the universe for what it is -- a product of True Love, imbued with love throughout. Here, things become effortless.

Me too John. I read it at least weekly to remind me. I fall short of the command side but try hard. I just did the replacement and it does work great. Thank you for that.

This is one of my favourite pieces of scripture Eric. You could very easily replace the word "love' here with "God" and it would be a perfect description of him. Great hub as always.

Sir, you have christened Love as God and so true are your words that nobody is devoid of love, even a hard core guy.

We have so many passions bubbling in our heart, but love should reign supreme, like a monarch.

Great writing. Voted up and shared.

Faith you give me much pleasure here, thank you. I think that those who strive hard are a little bit on the side of wanting to make life better and therefor are not all together satisfied with the way of the world as it is. You show your love to others and that is a fantastic gift that I will work harder to achieve.

"There is at the core of every human being a love." When it comes to the topic of love, you have presented it from so many angles, and each time the message is powerful. This one is outstanding!

      Dear Eric,

Once again you have brought the tears here, as love is omnipresent as God is love. I have never thought about it in such a depth as you have here, that it is truly everywhere, and it is so true! That is the best quote ever on what love is that I have ever known, as it is pure truth.

You are a wise man, and have seen the world at its best and worst, and people too, and yet you did not judge but allowed your heart to get past the ugly exterior and see past all of that ugliness to reveal love. How beautiful!

I truly have enjoyed reading your hubs here of late, especially, as you are allowing your heart to speak volumes through your words.

Thank you for this blessing this day.

On another note, I am surprised at Bill's comment, as he always states he loves his life and is completely happy, but I guess that is not the reality ... very sad indeed ...

Much love to you and yours

I think I shared somewhere here on hubpages recently that I have a good life. But as I came to your poll, I had trouble checking anything but still not content. Move over Bill. I'm "Becoming," I suppose is what I mean. And without love in my life, I'd be hopeless. Is it everywhere? Yes, I believe it is, but as you have said, it is nearly hopelessly buried in too many places. Thanks for the thoughtful article today, Eric.

Bill you are such a great encourager for me. It may sound cliche these days but I "feel the love" coming from you. It never seems absent in your positive contributions to our society. Thank you!

You know I love this message. On the poll, I had to vote honestly...never content....there is a cauldron boiling inside of me that doesn't allow contentment, but I'm at least getting closer to it now that Bev is in my life. :)
