Lifestyle of Revival Pt 1
What I Mean When I Say Revival
This is gonna be a two part message about revival. In this the first part I want to make sure that it’s clear what I mean when I say revival.
Not a Revival Meeting
In the church when people hear the word revival they immediately get a picture in their head about a highly emotional church meeting. They think about some great teacher preaching the gospel with fire and power, and people having a good time singing and praising God. They think about altar calls and new converts. Or they think about people getting filled with the Holy Ghost and speaking in tongues.
Now I was the type of preacher that if you didn’t get a little emotional during my messages I just didn’t feel like I had done my job. So I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with those types of meetings. I love a good old fashion revival meeting! The crazier the service, the better I like it. I like them old Holy Roller type meetings where people go all out and start jumping up and down and really praising God.
In this hub I’m not talking about those types of meetings. When I say revival I’m talking about life changing revival. The type of revival you take home with you. I’m talking about being convicted of your sins while at the same time being given the power to repent of them. I’m talking about igniting a flame in your heart so hot you can’t contain the fire!
The type of revival Jeremiah was talking about in Jeremiah chapter 20
Jeremiah 20:9 Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.
Jeremiah said he didn’t even want to talk about God anymore but His word was like fire, that he couldn’t contain it. That’s the type of revival that pushes you to go out and tell people about Jesus and what He did for you!
I’m talking about James 4 type revival.
James 4:7-8, 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
Draw nigh unto God and watch the Devil run in terror from you type revival. I hope you want to read a hub about that type of revival because I’m sure in the mood to write one!
That’s why I want you to know what I mean when I say revival. When I say revival I’m not just talking about coming into obedience, although I am talking about coming into obedience. I’m not just talking about boldly proclaiming the Gospel, although I am talking about boldly proclaiming the Gospel. Because I want you to understand that the Bible says in Hebrews 11:6 that My God is the “rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.”
Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
In other words when I say revival I’m talking about reviving all the things to you that God has promised to you. God has promised that he who the Son sets free would be free indeed from sin, God has promised that he would give the Holy Ghost freely to His children, and God has told us that the righteous would be as bold as a lion. He told us that He delights in our prosperity and that by His stripes we’ve been healed!
This hub is about taking back what the devil stole from you. It’s about taking back control of your life, and control of your circumstances. Not letting the devil push you around, and not letting the Devil enslave you.
It’s time for us in the Church to stand up for who we are and start acting like Sons of God!
The Bible says in Romans chapter 8 that the whole world has been waiting for us!
Romans 8:19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.
Revival is about manifesting yourself, It’s about standing up and boldly declaring who you are in Christ
Boldly Declaring the Gospel
One time I preached a message to youth group at a small Spanish church about how to deal with persecution.
I believe that teenaged Christians, especially those in America’s public schools deal with persecution more than any adult (in America) will ever know. Kids are mean. They don’t hold back. If they don’t like you they’ll tell you so. And we in the church all know that the world in general does not like us.
Anyway, in that message I brought up the resurrection of Jesus Christ to encourage them. I taught them how Romans 10:8-10 teaches to believe unto righteousness. It says to believe that God has raised Jesus from the dead. Because if you can believe that, that God has raised Jesus from the dead, then you can believe that God can raise you up out of any sin that has a hold on you.
I took it a step further. I said that if you actually believe this Gospel of the resurrection, then you can believe He can make you stand boldly before your persecutors.
My exact words were. “The next time some heathen tries to accuse you of thinking your ‘Holier than thou’ or calling you a ‘goody two shoes.’ You remember that If He can raise Him from the dead, He can make you bold enough to look that bully strait in the eye and say I don’t care what you say about me! I don’t care what you think about me! Because I know who I am in Christ, and I know who you are in the Devil. I don’t care how much 'cooler' or 'more balanced' you think you are than me, I don’t want to be nothing like ya! You ought-a fall to your knees and beg my God that He’ll do for you what he did for me and make you a Son of the Most High God!”
It’s time for the Church to start manifesting themselves to the World! It’s time for the church to start Boldly declaring the Gospel!
Jesus didn’t tell us to run from the world or to hide from the world He taught us in the parable of Luke 19:13 to “Occupy till He comes.” I said that Romans chapter 8:19 tells us that the whole world has been waiting for the manifestation. Luke 19:13 sounds more like an infestation. It’s not only time for the manifestation it’s time for the infestation.
When I was studying for this hub and reading Luke 19:13 that’s the first word that came to my head Infestation. I said to myself I can’t use such a word to describe God’s church. I mean that almost sounds blasphemous sounds like roaches or termites. But just out of curiosity I decided to open up a dictionary and look up the word infest. When I found out what the definition of infest was I said to myself “infestation is exactly the word we ought a use to describe the Church!”
Here, you read it for yourself and if you don’t agree with me that this is exactly what we have been called to do to the devil then just leave a comment to set me straight. I can handle it, in fact I’m starting to get used to it.
Infest: 1. Trouble, attack. 2. To be bold, in attack. 3. To overrun or inhabit in large numbers, usually so as to be harmful or bothersome; swarm in or over.
It’s time for us to be harmful and bothersome to the Devil! It's time for us to overrun or inhabit this world.
Now that's what I'm talking about when I say revival!
I hope this hub has been a blessing to you. In part two I’m gonna try to teach you what a true lifestyle of revival is about. That all the wonderful things that happen in revival meetings are supposed to be happening in the everyday life of a Christian. That God wants you to be a hero, He wants you to be a champion. God has promised us so many blessings in His Word that the devil does not want you to receive. I want you to learn how to fight for those things that are rightfully yours. To take back what the devil stole from you. If you like what you just read you’re gonna love part two. For now God bless you.
