Living the Temporary Life
The temporary life
Matthew 24:35
35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
1 John 2:17
17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
Revelation 21:4-6
4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
Life on earth is temporary, it is here one moment and gone the next.
Psalm 39:5 Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity.
And in Psalm 144:4 Man is like to vanity: his days are as a shadow that passeth away.
Everything on earth has a time, a time to live and a time to die, a time to be built and a time to be torn down. Plants grow for a time then they die, just as we humans also do.
Look all around you, at buildings, vehicles, electronics, relationships—everything has but a moment on earth. When we think of eternity and put everything into perspective, even 100 years or 500 years are but a whisper in the wind.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
So why do we focus on things that are temporary? Why do we do things or hold onto things that do not matter?
We ought to read and learn what is written in God’s word, the Holy Bible for in there is written what matters. God’s word will stand for all time.
--Isaiah 40:8
8 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.
--1 Peter 1;25
But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.
--Matthew 24:35
Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
We learn that our Lord lived His life in service of others and He laid down His life for us so that we can be saved and live for eternity with Him. Ah yes, eternity with our Lord. Now that is what matters. After all is said and done we know that we will live for eternity and we know that eternity is forever; the question is, “Where will you spend it?”.
Where do you store your riches? Are they earthly riches stored up on earth or are they Heavenly riches stored up in Heaven?
Are you in a earthly relationship you know you shouldn’t be in or are you in a Godly relationship, one built on the foundation of Christ.
Is your bank account filled with riches while your neighbour is struggling to make ends meet or are you doing as Jesus did and are helping your neighbour?
Oh so many things we can discuss about the temporary life and Eternity. Ask yourself, which one matters to you?
Matthew 6:20-21
"But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal
