Looking beyond yourself
(It is 4AM as I write this, I could not sleep and thought about all the people who are unable to celebrate Christmas like many people will do this year)
Christmas is a time when many people decorate, eat big meals, exchange gifts and spend time with family and friends.
This is very common and occurs every year.
However, there are also those who can not partake in such a manner as their financial situation will not allow them to. They are struggling financially, they don't have the money for anything extra and many don't even have money for the bare necessities AND are forgotten during this time of year.
Let us think about what we do during this time of year. Do we think about how we want to decorate our home, what meal to make, what gifts to buy? Do we ever give thought to those who are lost and are in dire straits?
What did Jesus do during His time on earth? Are we living according to His will? Are we modelling our lives after Him?
Let us do as Jesus did and think beyond ourselves this Christmas and every day. By this I mean that we ought to remember those who struggle and help them.
Perhaps we can buy less decorations, less gifts etc and instead buy food, toiletries, clothing and donate to food banks, soup kitchens and homeless shelters. Is this not what Jesus would want us to do?
I firmly believe in celebrating Christ every day, not just one day a year.
If we truly follow Christ and live according to His will and model our life after Him, then we should want to always help those who are less fortunate. We would look beyond ourselves and see the ones who need help.
The greatest gift we can give is to share the gospel of Christ and give to those in need. Is this not what Christ did? Jesus fed thousands, healed the sick and He went told the lost about Himself so that they can be saved.
Here are a few verses about helping others. There are many more that you can find in the bible.
God Bless you all and feel free to share this blog with others.
Philippians 2:1-8 King James Version (KJV)
1 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,
2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.
3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Matthew 25:35-40 King James Version (KJV)
35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
Isaiah 58:10-11 King James Version (KJV)
10 And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noon day:
11 And the Lord shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.
Luke 6:38 King James Version (KJV)
38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
Acts 20:35 King James Version (KJV)
35 I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.
