Horoscope matching is an ancient tradition in India. Matching horoscopes of the bride and the groom is considered of great importance before marriage is finalized. Mangal dosha often becomes a major issue in horoscope matching as it is considered as the most important parameter for marriage. Mangal (Mars) is considered the planet of war and so Mangal dosha results in highly unfavorable circumstances for marriage. Married life of such persons is full of tensions, discomforts and unhappiness which often results in separation or divorce.

The native is said to be Manglik when Mars is placed in ascendant, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house in the birth chart. In South India, Mars' placement in the 2nd house is also considered for Manglik Dosha. The counting of Houses should be done from the ascendant, Moon or Venus.

Characteristics of Mangal Dosha

  1. People of both the sexes can be Manglik.
  2. The planet Mars is considered a fiery and violent planet. It represents energy, ego and self-esteem. Therefore Manglik (one with the Mangal Dosha) has a volatile temper. Due to their short temper, they face a lot of problems in making adjustments with their partners.
  3. The energy of Manglik individuals can be compared to that of fire. This energy should be used in the right direction and in doing something constructive.
  4. Mangal Dosha not only affects the married life and mental state but also leads to financial losses.

Shri Hanuman Chaalisa (English and Hindi Edition)
Reciting Hanuman Chalisa daily is not only an effective remedy for mangal dosha but also helps get rid of evils and spirits that can be dangerous and reduce the effects of Sade Sati. It provides the divine protection of Lord Hanuman who ensures that the devotee faces no complication in life.

Mangal Dosha Remedies to reduce its bad effects

If a Manglik person is born on Tuesday the ill effects of Mangal Dosha are nullified. The best way to negate the ill-effects of Mangal Dosha is marriage between two mangaliks. In this way, the negativity is naturally diffused.

Some other ways to reduce the ill-effects of Mangal Dosha are listed below:

  • Fasting on Tuesdays is recommended to placate Mars.
  • Visiting Hanuman temple on Tuesdays and offering sweets and vermillion to Lord Hanuman.
  • Kumbh Vivah (Marriage of the bride to a clay pot (kumbha) is called kumbh-vivah. It is believed that all the evil effects resulting from the Mangala Dosha befall on the mock groom i.e. clay pot. The bride is thus freed from the Mangal Dosha and her subsequent marriage to a human is expected to be a happy one).
  • Reciting Mantras (Navgraha Mantra or Hanuman Chalisa). Chanting “Om Shreem Hanumante Namah” for 108 times while sitting in front of Lord Hanuman's idol is also beneficial.
  • Offerings and contributions to propitiate Mars (Red gram daal, wheat bread, red silk or red coloured clothes and red stones can be donated).
  • Wearing gemstones in the form of rings.
  • By visiting the Navagraha and Hanuman temples.
  • A mangalik is advised to get married after the age of 28 as the intensity of the dosha comes down with age.
