Manna food for Thursday September 16th
The concept of this series of hubs will be to produce a daily hub which delivers a spiritual message, using bible verse alone.
Verses used will be annotated for your Berean instincts to be satisfied, and for further contemplation if you desire.
Reading the word daily is an essential part of staying spiritually healthy, if you don't eat, you starve!
Speaking personally, I use the King James for study purposes, however I will be using the Amplified Bible for these hubs (mainly) unless it has significant contextual differences, for it's easier to read, and who knows, maybe somebody will read these who is not yet in faith!
If you like this series, please tell your friends, whether they be believers or not.... and leave comments, they help others know about this series in the feeds!
A bruised reed He will not break....
Our sacrifice [the sacrifice acceptable] to God is a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite heart [broken down with sorrow for sin and humbly and thoroughly penitent], such, O God, You will not despise.
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds [curing their pains and their sorrows].
For thus says the high and lofty One...... He Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy:
I dwell in the high and holy place, but with him also who is of a thoroughly penitent and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble and to revive the heart of the thoroughly penitent [bruised with sorrow for sin].
For I will not contend forever, neither will I be angry always, for [if I did stay angry] the spirit [of man] would faint and be consumed before Me, and [My purpose in] creating the souls of men would be frustrated.
I will seek that which was lost and bring back that which has strayed, and I will bandage the hurt and the crippled and will strengthen the weak and the sick, but I will destroy the fat and the strong [who have become hardhearted and perverse]; I will feed them with judgment and punishment.
So then, brace up and reinvigorate and set right your slackened and weakened and drooping hands and strengthen your feeble and palsied and tottering knees, and cut through and make firm and plain and smooth, straight paths for your feet [yes, make them safe and upright and happy paths that go in the right direction], so that the lame and halting [limbs] may not be put out of joint, but rather may be cured.
Say to those who are of a fearful and hasty heart, Be strong, fear not!
Behold, your God will come with vengeance; with the recompense of God He will come and save you.
Commentary
It is easy to think of God as unapproachable, especially when we feel that we have failed in our commitment to Him, and the enemy will remind you of every failing you have.
But God is always with us, it's us that slip away from God when we err, and delve deep into the world or simply lose our faith due to circumstances.
King David erred more than most and greivously, but in Psalm 51 he outlines our path back to God... a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite heart .
God will not deny.
The best thing is that no matter how far you stray from Gods presence, He is never more than a prayer away, and in a few brief seconds you can re-establish the relationship you destroyed.
