Our children are in a war and many of them do not even know they are in the midst of a battle. This warfare is happening in our homes, our cities, even our churches. But it is also happening in our schools.

Never before have our schools been such a battleground. Our children in schools face many challenges - bullying, peer pressure to do drugs have sex and drink alcohol, guns, wearing immodest clothing, poverty, suicide, anxiety, abuse by school staff, the list goes on and on.

Why is this happening? The thief (Satan) comes to kill, steal and destroy and he wants our children's souls. What do we do about this? We come together and pray. We pray that God would protect our children but it becomes harder and harder as the battle for their souls continues to rage.

Recently, I was e-mailed a newsletter from the prayer ministry, Moms in Touch International. I was shocked to read the following: "A teacher encountered a man “praying” near her high school classroom—but he wasn’t a Christian. He was from the nearby church of Satan. He said their churches send teams every week to pray Satan onto school campuses."

Moms In Touch International

Moms in Touch International was founded by Fern Nichols in 1984 when her two sons were about to enter junior high. She knew about the peer pressure they were going to be facing and while praying for her sons, she also prayed for a like-minded mom to pray with her.

Another mom did join her and soon other moms prayed with them as well. They began to meet on a weekly basis. They prayed for their children, the teachers, the staff and the whole school. That was the beginning of Moms In Touch International. Currently, there is a Moms In Touch chapter in every state and also in over 120 countries around the world.

Moms in Touch International is an interdenominational, nonprofit, donation-supported prayer ministry that incorporates the following:

  • Two or more moms meeting regularly to pray for their children, their schools, their teachers and administrators.
  • Mothers, grandmothers or anyone willing to pray for a specific child and school
  • Moms believing that prayer makes a difference

According to their website, www.momsintouch.org, the purpose of their ministry is:

  • To pray that our children will receive Jesus as Lord and Savior, then stand boldly in their faith
  • To pray for teachers and staff
  • To pray that teachers, administrative staff, and students would come to faith in Jesus Christ
  • To provide support and encouragement to moms who carry heavy burdens for their children
  • To pray that our schools will be directed by biblical values and high moral standards
  • To be an encouragement and a positive support to our schools
  • To be an encouragement and a positive support to our schools

Joining a Moms in Touch Chapter

I personally had a lot of anxiety when my daughter started kindergarten in the fall of 2009. I had known about Moms and Touch and wished their was a chapter at the school she was attending. I thought about starting one but with my daughter only going to school half-days, I didn't think I could commit the time I needed. After praying about it, I was introduced to another mom at my daughter's school who said she wanted to start a Moms in Touch chapter!

I am now a co-leader of our chapter where my daughter attends elementary school. I am very grateful for this ministry. It is wonderful getting together once a week to pray for the kids and staff at my daughter's school. There are so many needs to pray for and yet many of our prayers have been answered!

If you are a mom who is concerned about your child in school, I strongly encourage you to join a Mom's in Touch Chapter. You can go here, to see if there is an existing group praying for your child's school. If there is none, their website gives you all of the information on how you can start your own chapter.

If you no longer have a child in school, there are other Moms in Touch groups you can join. The purpose of these special groups is to get like-minded moms with similar causes to come together and pray for their children and/or their adult children. Some of these groups include: college/university, career, grandmothers, special needs, military, homeschool, prison/jail, working moms. To search for a group in your area go here.

It is wonderful if you are a mom who already prays for your child and your child's school, but Moms In Touch really encourages at least two like-minded moms to come together to pray. This ministry takes to heart Matthew 18:20 which states, "For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them."

If you don't think that praying for our children and their schools is important, please reread the first part of this hub. We are in a battle and it seems that Satan is winning. The only thing that can reverse this trend is to pray, pray and pray some more. This is a battle we need to win - our children's lives and souls are at stake.
