Kentucky Has Some Of The Most Haunted Places In The USA.

The X Cave named for the passages inside the cave and the natural formation of the X they make by the way the passages cross each other. The cave is located inside of Carter County Kentucky and the cave is open to the public in the summer months. It is well worth a visit if you happen to be in the area.

The legend says that X Cave is haunted by two ghosts which in life were Cherokee Indians. There was the brave Huraken and the maiden Manuita who just happened to be the daughter of the Cherokee Chief. The story goes that the Indian brave Huraken found a rich vein of silver in the X Cave but he kept it to his self because he wanted to use the silver to make gifts for the maiden Manuita who he was said to be deeply in love with.

One day Huraken left with a group of other braves and when they did not return to the village the Indians were about to move because they feared the party of braves had been killed by other Indians. Manuita feared that her beloved Huraken had been killed and he would never return to her. She threw herself off a cliff and died. The very next morning Huraken returned to the village with several silver objects he had made. The Chief told him that it was the fault of Huraken that his daughter had killed herself. Huraken escaped and took the body of Manuita and the bag of silver objects with him and went into the cave known as the X Cave.

Many years later the skeletons of a man and woman were found deep in the X Cave with a deer skin bag of silver objects by their sides. It has always been believed that those were the skeletons of Huraken and Manuita. They were buried in the cave and no one knows what happened to the deer skin bag of silver objects.

In modern times people who go into the cave say they feel something or someone watching them inside the cave. Other people tell of seeing a man with dark hair and deer skin clothing walking in the cave. Other people have told of seeing a beautiful Indian girl walking in the cave. Some people tell that they see the Indian couple walking and holding hands. Other people tell that they see the man by himself or the woman by herself. Other people tell that they hear beautiful Indian flute music coming from deep in the cave. I myself have been to this cave and I did feel like something or someone was watching me. I heard knocks coming from deeper in the cave but did not hear any flute music. I have a friend who lives in the area that says he has seen the Indian couple walking in the cave for over 50 years now. He says that Manuita is a very beautiful Indian princess and he says he has seen her and Huraken walking through the cave holding hands. He also says he has smelled a fire burning deep in the cave and saw shadows of people up on the wall of the cave.

If your ever in Carter County Kentucky in the summer time take time out to visit the state park and take a tour of X Cave. It is only open to the public in the summer months.

Are Ghosts Real Or Not?

If you think your seeing a ghost or experiencing paranormal activity is there a logical reason for what you are seeing or experiencing. Always look for all the logical reasons for what you are seeing or experiencing before you say it is a ghost or paranormal activity.

Animals like racoons, rats, mice, and squirrels can have you believing a place is really haunted. Look for signs of animal activity like droppings, nests. etc. Put down flour and look for small animal footprints 12 hours later.

The Hatfields and McCoys - A Documentary

Yes The Hatfields And McCoys Were Real And In Pike County Kentucky.

It would only stand to reason that there would be plenty of ghosts around Pike County Kentucky from the famous Hatfield and McCoys feud. It is said that Calvin McCoy who is buried in the cemetery is one of the most active of all the ghosts. He is often seen in and around the cemetery and around the Pike County Courthouse. He was killed by the Hatfield's and he still gets up and walks around. Some people say he is still looking for Hatfields. The McCoy's Cemetery is on private property so do not go there with out permission.

Did you know that legend says that a stolen hog started the whole Hatfield, McCoy feud going and that before it was over that many family members on both sides and many friends on both sides were also killed.

Ellison Mounts was the scapegoat of the whole feud and he was hanged at the Pike County Courthouse on Feburary 18th, 1890. Mounts was the nephew of Devil Anse Hatfield. Many people down through the years have claimed to see both the ghosts of Ellison Mounts and Devil Anse Hatfield in and around the Pike County Courthouse.

People visiting the Pike County Courthouse have told of having Devil Anse Hatfield walk up to them or through them in the Pike County Courthouse.

Other people tell of seeing Devil Anse Hatfield hurrying along outside the Pike County Courthouse hurrying along and sometimes he's seen with another man who many people claim is the sheriff who actually hung Ellison Mounts.

It is not common knowledge but it is a fact that Devil Anse Hatfield went to the Pike County Courthouse several times to see the sheriff before he hung Ellison Mounts. It is believed that Mounts was simple minded and he probably was hung for a crime he did not commit. Hatfield may have gone to see the sheriff to try to stop the hanging of his nephew. But Mounts was hung and most people say that is the event that finally stopped the feud.

The Waverly Hills Sanatorium Was Said To Have Been The Site Of 60,000 Plus Deaths.

In case you don't know the Waverly Hills Sanatorium is said to be the most haunted place on earth. There are unconfirmed reports that as many as 60,000 people died here.

There were earlier reports that the true death number was believed to be under ten thousand people but in 2013 books documenting over 30,000 deaths were found behind a wall in a office and the same book contains over 40 water damaged pages that can not be read so the true death number may be 60,000 or more.

And anywhere that you have huge numbers of deaths your going to have paranormal activity and ghosts.

I've been to Waverly Hills Sanatorium many times over the years and every time I go there I see more ghosts and experience all types of paranormal activity at the old closed down hospital. I have seen more shadow people at Waverly Hills than at any other place I have ever been. I have seen the ghosts of 200 or more ghosts there during 11 visits over the years and I've heard voices where I know for a fact that no living humans were around. In one location I have had the same male ghost come up to me and ask when dinner is coming. That same ghost has asked me several times if I'm going to eat my chocolate pudding.

I've been to many places reported to be haunted and I will have to say that I have seen more ghosts and experienced more paranormal activity at Waverly Hills than any where else on earth. So yes I agree that Waverly Hills is the most haunted place on earth.

Death Tunnel Or Body Chute

There really is a tunnel under the main building of the old Sanatorium and it was through that tunnel that the dead bodies were removed from the hospital and taken away. That tunnel was used so that patients in the sanatorium didn't have to see all the dead bodies being taken away and doctors at the time believed that if the dead were removed this way it would keep diseases from spreading to the staff of the hospital.

The Murder Or Suicide Of A Nurse In Room 502

There has long been a legend that a nurse was murdered or committed suicide in room 502. According to who is telling you the story either a horrific murder happened in room 502 or a very young nurse discovered she was pregnant and hung herself in room 502. Some paranormal investigators over the years have claimed to have made contact with a nurse named Rose in room 502.

Proof Of Ghosts

If all the information on this Hub Page could be presented to a jury I think they would find that proof of ghosts does exist here on this Hub Page. I've stood at many of these locations and I know that ghosts do exist. In the Death Tunnel at Waverly Hills Sanatorium I saw the scariest shadow person I ever saw. It was a tall slender dark shadow creature with fiery red eyes and it had the distinct smell of sulfur about it. Possibly it was from hell its self. I know it was one of the scariest ever.

Scandals & Ghost Stories @ Whitehall State Historic Site in Richmond, Kentucky 2012

The Ghosts Of White Hall In Madison County Kentucky

The infamous Whitehall House is located 11 miles north of Richmond Kentucky. The original house was built in 1798. Some of the claims of strange paranormal activity going on at the house include candles that are lighted that float through the air, up stairs and then vanish as quickly as they appear. Fiddle music is often heard and the sound of many people dancing and laughing is often heard.

Piano music and the ghosts of three beautiful women in long flowing dresses are also reported often.

Phillips Folly Is Said To Be One Of Kentucky's Most Haunted Houses

There was once a make shift jail in the basement of the house where slaves were once locked up at night to prevent them from attempting to escape. Dr John A Reed is also said to have once had a medical practice in the basement of the house. Rumors say that Reed may have done medical experiments on dogs and people in the basement. Dr Reed was the father of US Supreme Court Justice Stanley Forman Reed who was the last member of the Supreme Court to never graduate law school.

A very large man in a tall top hat has been seen in the house and on the front porch for over a hundred years but no one knows who this ghost is. There are stories told that a man and his dog died in a small room in the basement and both the ghost of the man and the dog are seen in and around the house. The dog is a very large white dog with long white hair. The man is said to have shot his dog and then himself in the little basement room where they lived.

People often tell of a beautiful woman in a red dress walking around on the porches of the house. She is said to have long black hair and a dark brown complexion. No one knows who she is but she has been reported by various people for over a hundred years.

The ghosts of many slaves who once lived in the house are seen often. An older black man dressed in a black suit is seen often polishing the wood work inside the house. Some paranormal investigators have claimed that there is something very dark and evil in the basement of the old house.

La Grange Kentucky Is Said To Be A Hot Bed Of Paranormal Activity

La Grange Kentucky Is Said To Have Several Ghosts That Make Their Home There.

The "Rails" Bar and Restaurant on main street in La Grange Kentucky is said to be the home of a mischievous little girl ghost that loves to play tricks on people. The little girl ghost is seen inside and outside the building but most often in the back room of the restaurant. In 1982 during remodeling the skeleton of a 10 - 12 year old girl was found inside the wall of the back room of the restaurant. No one has ever been able to find out who the little girl was or how she came to be sealed up inside the wall. At the time the skeleton was found it was estimated that the girls skeleton was in the wall for 60 - 70 years. The building is over 150 years old.

When people go inside the restaurant in the morning they often find chairs moved around and often stacked up on top of each other. Quite often all the furniture will be moved over to one side of the room. The staff in the restaurant often tell of hearing the laughter of a little girl and some people tell of seeing a little girl walk up to their table. They say she is a real pretty little girl with freckles on her nose and bright red hair. The skeleton that was found in the wall had red hair.

Outside near the railroad track the ghost of a older man dressed like a railroad worker from the 1920s to 1930s is seen walking along and he often vanishes as quickly as he appears. A railroad worker was killed in an accident in this area in 1937 when the train he was riding struck the wall of a building crushing the railroad worker and killing him. People also see a strange light that looks like someone with a lantern wandering around.

A man on a horse wearing the uniform of a Confederate officer has been seen for years riding down main street in La Grange Kentucky. It is interesting to note that this man on a horse has been seen for 100 years or more. People down through the years have always reported that the Confederate Officer is riding a grey horse with white spots. People from 1915 to 2012 have told of seeing the Confederate Officer riding the grey horse and the story is almost always told the same. People who see him say that until he vanishes that he looks solid and real. People tell of hearing the officers sword rattle and they tell of hearing the horses hooves on the street.
