Mothman, then and now

Updated on April 27, 2017

In the beginning

The very first sighting came from a couple of men digging a grave who said that a large moth like man came flying at them from the trees nearby then disappeared into the other side of the woods. Needless to say they were both scared half to death, no report could be found on if the men were drinking.

Shortly after that report two young couples, Roger and Linda Scarberry, and Steve and Mary Mallette told police they saw a large creature with eyes that "glowed red" when the car headlights flashed on it. They described it as a "large flying man with ten-foot wings” that followed their car while they were driving in an area outside of town known as "the TNT area”.

Quite a lot of the reports came from people along the road or near the "TNT area". Of course locals made the connection and said the TNT area had to be where the creature was living. It made sense at the time, the area was abandoned and hardly anyone went out there due to the danger of dynamite being stored there. The local government had declared the area too dangerous to allow people easy access.

The worst cases of sightings happened from November 1966 to December 1967. At first it was just a few local kids reporting something flying after them as they tried to get away. It then progressed to local homeowners beginning to report seeing monsters with red eyes in their backyards staring into their homes. A couple of the homeowners, after the sun came up, went outside to collect evidence the creature had been in their yard.

People who reported seeing the creature ranged from local kids, to firemen to police. Some skeptics may say that this was some sort of conspiracy by the town to boost tourism. In response I ask back, how would an entire town get in on making up stories about a giant moth-like man creature? Would they have had a town meeting and taken a vote that they would all be in on this lie and keep it going for 20+ years? As their children grow up do they take them aside and explain the lie and explain that it'll be the kid’s responsibility to continue the story?

After the Silver Bridge area collapsed on December 15, 1967 the people in the area stopped seeing the creature around town, for a while. When they stopped seeing the creature people began to draw connections between the creature and the bridge collapsing saying the creature is the foreshadowing of doom. But that caused people to look a little deeper.

After the accident

Some paranormal authors and cryptologists have come up with explanations for this moth man creature ranging from it being an Alien to some unknown Cryptid just waiting to be discovered. Obviously without the concrete proof that this creature is real no one can say for sure what it was.

This author believes in the chance that this was some sort of "being" whether it was an alien being or something on this earth that was showing itself to try and warn people what was coming. One can't deny the fact that people enough people saw something, weather natural animal or not there was something there scaring people

As many times as the creature has been reported it's the same story. People report seeing a Moth man type creature around town, as soon as a local disaster happens no one reports seeing the being anymore.

What do you think?

Still having reports?

Reports or sightings of the Mothman seem to have slowed down these days but that hasn't stopped it's hardcore believers. Since the hardcore believers say that the creature only shows up when a disaster is about to happen and nothing seriously disastrous has happened recently.

Unfortunately some pranksters decided to photoshop some pictures of the Mothman at the twin towers literally seconds before the planes hit, I won't be including pictures because I feel what they did was distasteful.

That being said, I would still encourage everyone to keep an open mind until more evidence comes to light.

What do you think?

Were the people in the town lying about seeing Mothman?
