Updated on June 3, 2020

Omkareshwar Jyotirling is in Khandwa District in Madhya Pradesh in India. This Temple is situated on Mandhata Island in Narmada River. It is like Hindi word Om. Narmada River flows around this Omkar Jyotirling. This Island is also called Mandhata Island.

Mandhata was the forefathers of Lord Ramji. This reign was under the rule of King Mandhata. He was religious king. He always thought for the prosperity of his public. He did penance of Lord Shivji for the prosperity of his kingdom. Lord Shivji appeared and had asked his wish. He requested to be seated in that place. Shivji accepted his request and seated here as a Jyotirling.

Here's Mandhata Palace and in the backside there were stairs. These stairs connected the mountain with the palace. King Mandhata also made the other Sun that had shone at night. He was also a scientist. This whole Omkareshwar Jyotirling compound and the sceneries around this Jyotirling are unique. Om shape that is given by turning River Narmada is marvelous.

Om sound is given by the creator of the world Lord Brahma. This is the sound that gives us life force energy and when a human comes into existence as an infant the first sound Om is created by weeping. Om has its importance in many ways.

On this place Kuber did penance to please Lord Shivji by making Shivling. Lord Shivji pleased at his penance and gave Darshan. He was so indulged in penance that he could not bother about his bath. Lord Shivji released Kaveri River from his Jatta to take bath in it. Lord Shivji made Kuber the God of money. Here's a Kuber Temple and Kaveri River is flowing near it and meet with Narmada River. Kaveri River revolves around the Omkareshwar mountain and meeting in Narmada. This place is called Narmada Kaveri Sangam.

Before Diwali festival on Dhan Teras the Dwadashi Night Worship of God Kuber and Goddess Lakshmi is done in this Temple for wealth and money.

Mandhata's two sons Muchukand and Ambrish also did penance of Lord Shivji to please him. They also did penance for the prosperity of their public.

Vindhai also did penance to please Lord Shivji.

There was a great war among Devas and Danvas. The Devas were defeated by Danvas. They did penance for assistance. Lord Shivji appeared and had helped. The Devas energized with Lord Shivji's assistance and got victory over Danvas.

All Devas requested to be seated here. Lord Shivji accepted their request and seated there as a jyotirling. Lord Shivji offered them their place for seating. Thirty three crore Devas resided there with their families.

There is Geographically significance is that the Island place was devided into two parts in Narmada River. It was like an Om Shape.

One part was called Omkareshwar Jyotirling and the other part was called Amreshwar Jyotirling. Omkareshwar means the Lord of Om sound and Amreshwar means the Lord of immortal. This Amreshwar is now called Mamleshwar. When we see from the space , it looks like Hindi word Om. On this Omkareshwar Island many Temples of God's and Goddesses are located.

Let's go for the Darshans of Garabhgrih of Omkareshwar Jyotirling.

Here's an idol of Lord Ganeshji before the entrance of Omkareshwar jyotirling. Then comes the first level. Here's the idol of Nandi Bal and Shivling. Shivling is in the water of Narmada and it is not under the mount . The Idol of Paarvati is also near it. Here's three divine lights are enlightened. These three divine lights symbolize Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shivji. These three divine lights infuse the feeling that these Jyotirlings are not only for one Lord but a joint power of Tridevs. We gain positive energies of Tridevs here. They are not different from each other.

Second level of Omkareshwar Jyotirling is for Mahakaleshwar. This Jyotirling is under the mount. The Idol of Nandi Bal is also here. To get rid off accidents and mishappenings worship of Mahakaleshwar is done.

The third level is for Sidhnath Ling. It is for fulfilling wishes. It is under the mount. Here's no idol of Nandi Bal.

The fourth level is called Gupteshwar Ling. This is the place where Lord Shivji and Goddess Paarvati come every night after the tour of world. The bed and Jhula is decorated for Lord Shivji and Goddess Paarvati. Chauncer is displayed in a systematic way for their playing. Nobody is allowed to stay in this temple. At night eight thirty after Aarti Temple is closed. At night Chauncer is displayed but in the morning it is placed here and there. This is the proof of the presence of Lord Shivji and Goddess Paarvati.

Here is a shrine of Aadiguru shankaraachaary. He came here to get the knowledge of Vedanta from the scholar Govind Bhagwatpad. Here he consontarated on Ma Kali and had penance. Here's two entrances from the shrine. Here's stairs that lead to the above temple.

The fifth level is Dhvajeshwar ling. It is for the victory over the problems and enemies.

Omkareshwar Jyotirling is like an Island in Narmada River and many temples and Aashrams are there making the shape of Om. We can enjoy the spiritual tour by boating or walking through the bridge. Natural and spiritual environment makes us close to Nature and God.
