Online Bible Verses - Ephesians 5:25-26 - love your wives
“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word,”
Ephesians 5:25-26
Lots of guidelines for men coming through lately. “gave himself up for her” – An illustration of how we are to love our wives. Looking through Proverbs and elsewhere we see many more examples. Outside of God, we are truly encouraged put her and our kids first. Job #1.
Go back to Genesis 2:24 where the relationship is first covered:
“That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.”
At first glance we may interpret “one flesh” in only the literal physical sense. But it means much more than that, conveying that two people effectively become one unit. Everything is done in tandem, decisions are made together. A team for life, best friends. God’s intent.
So instruction is clear on how we are to view, treat and love our wives. Even when she is not acting real pretty. Likewise, she too is called to love and honor us, even in our non-highlight moments. Given the world we live in and our tendency to be driven by flesh vs. spirit, it takes work. But it is worth it.
Today is a good day to give your wife a big bear hug and tell her you love her.
